Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) is one of the neoplasms with the best prognosis in children, adolescents and young adults, but sufferers are burdened by the possibility of developing adverse effects such as Bone Ischemic Lesions (BILs) which are lesions of the bone caused by the loss of/reduction in blood flow. The main goal of this retrospective study was to evaluate the role of [F]FDG-PET-MR in the early detection of BILs in a single-center cohort of uniformly treated pediatric HL patients. BILs were assessed through PET-MR images as the appearance of medullary lesion surrounded by a serpiginous, tortuous border.

With an incidence of over 1.5 million worldwide per annum, breast cancer continues to be the most common cancer affecting the female population. The main and most effective treatment in over 40% of these patients is a primary neoplasm resection.

This study tested the hypothesis that pectoralis II (PECS II) + serratus plane blocks would reduce opioid consumption and improve outcomes compared with standard practice in minimally invasive cardiac surgery. A retrospective and observational study was realized in the intensive care unit (ICU) setting of “ICLAS GVM, Istitituto Clinico Ligure Alta Specialità, (Rapallo, Italy)”, including adult patients who underwent right minithoracotomy for replacement/plastic aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve or atrial myxoma resection in cardiac surgery. Seventy-eight patients were extracted by the database and divided into two groups.

Robotics in right colectomy are still under debate. Available studies compare different techniques of ileocolic anastomosis but results are non-conclusive. Our study aimed to compare intraoperative outcomes, and short-term postoperative results between robotic and standard laparoscopic right colectomies for cancer with intracorporeal anastomosis (ICA) fashioned with the same technique.

Background: Fifty years of epidemiological survey and intra-regional differences in prevalence suggest that environmental factors may be associated with increased multiple sclerosis (MS) risk in Northern Italy. Based on the findings of a previous study carried out in the highly polluted Padan Plain, we further explored the relationship between PM2.5 levels and MS prevalence by comparing bordering areas characterized by quite different environmental conditions, namely the Municipality of Padua and the special protected zone (SPZ) of the Euganean Hills Regional Park, located 15 km from the City.

Background: Hip fracture (HF) is a burdening health problem in older people. The orthogeriatric approach has been shown to favour functional recovery and reduce mortality, but its implementation in clinical practice cannot rely upon shared management protocols and greatly varies among different healthcare systems. Here, we present the rationale and design of the Italian consensus document on the management of HF in older people.

Background: Previous studies, dating back to the 1960s disclosed a progressive increase in multiple sclerosis (MS) incidence and prevalence in the Province of Padua. To further analyze whether this trend is the effect of the improved diagnostic procedures or is primarily related to a real increase risk of MS, we analyzed MS incidence and prevalence of the 5-year period 2011-2015.
Methods: Patients with a diagnosis of MS or clinically isolated syndrome highly suggestive of MS were included in the study.

Background: Intracorporeal anastomosis (IA) in right colectomies shows many advantages over extracorporeal anastomosis (EA). Many difficulties encountered in laparoscopic IA can be overcome with hybrid robot-assisted IA or recently with totally robotic procedures. In the literature, few works have been published comparing laparoscopic, hybrid, and totally robotic right colectomies.

Background: The Bova score has shown usefulness in the identification of intermediate-high risk patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE), but lacks prospective validation. The aim of this study was to prospectively validate the Bova score in different settings from the original derivation cohort.
Methods: Consecutive, normotensive patients with acute PE recruited at 13 academic or general hospitals were stratified, using their baseline data, into the three Bova risk stages (I-III).

Objective This retrospective study presents the long-term results of catheter-directed foam sclerotherapy of the great saphenous vein. Method From January 2003 to June 2017, 277 patients with varices and great saphenous vein incompetence were treated with echo-guided foam sclerotherapy. Forty-six patients were treated with long-catheters guided by foam sclerotherapy.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the ability of fluorine-18-fluorocholine (F-FCH) PET/computed tomography (CT) to detect oligometastatic disease (OMD) in patients with early recurrence of prostate cancer (PC) [prostate-specific antigen (PSA)≤5 ng/ml].
Patients And Methods: Between 2010 and 2016, 324 patients with PC and PSA levels of less than or equal to 5 ng/ml were recruited. The mean (SD) age of the patients was 71 (10) years.

Background: The prevalence of pulmonary embolism among patients hospitalized for syncope is not well documented, and current guidelines pay little attention to a diagnostic workup for pulmonary embolism in these patients.
Methods: We performed a systematic workup for pulmonary embolism in patients admitted to 11 hospitals in Italy for a first episode of syncope, regardless of whether there were alternative explanations for the syncope. The diagnosis of pulmonary embolism was ruled out in patients who had a low pretest clinical probability, which was defined according to the Wells score, in combination with a negative d-dimer assay.

Cardiovascular autonomic dysfunction (AD) is a particular condition that can be detected by means of ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM). ABPM is helpful to identify some specific characteristics of haemodynamic AD, including non-dipping/reverse-dipping pattern, orthostatic and post-prandial hypotension and elevated blood pressure variability. These characteristics may be misdiagnosed with traditional, clinic blood pressure measurements.

Background: Although > 90% of children with nonmetastatic rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) achieve complete remission with current treatment, up to one-third of them experience a recurrence. Survival rates are not always poor in patients who develop recurrences; thus, prognostic factors are needed to tailor salvage treatment.
Methods: The current analysis included 125 children who were affected by localized RMS and were enrolled in 3 consecutive Italian protocols (RMS79, RMS88, and RMS96) who developed recurrences after complete remission.

Endoscopic polypectomy is the gold standard for the treatment of colorectal polyps. In the case of non-palpable lesions or to complete polyp removal, the lesions are located intra-operatively. With the advent of laparoscopy, identifying their position is even more important because there is no opportunity for intestinal palpation.
