The abnormal expression of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) is linked to the development of various diseases. Accurate determination of AChE activity as well as screening AChE inhibitors (AChEIs) holds paramount importance for early diagnosis and treatment of AChE-related diseases. Herein, a fluorescent and colorimetric dual-channel probe based on gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) and manganese dioxide nanosheets (MnO NSs) was developed.

Background: Accumulating evidence suggests that the radiographic phenotypes of patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) often do not correlate with their clinical findings, which are the primary reason for seeking medical care. Therefore, at OARSI 2024, we proposed a clinical finding staging system-Chinese medicine staging (CMS)-to guide the treatment of KOA. However, the clinical effectiveness and application characteristics of CMS in guiding non-surgical treatment of KOA remain unclear.

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of ultrasound-guided ilioinguinal and iliohypogastric nerve block (IIHB) in children undergoing surgery for inguinal hernias.

Material And Methods: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases were searched to January 4, 2024. For continuous data, the effect sizes were presented as weighted mean differences (WMDs), and for categorical data, they were reported as relative ratios (RR), each accompanied by 95% confidence intervals (CIs).

Targeted drugs have revolutionized the treatment of advanced non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the understanding of how cardiac comorbidity and toxicity affect the clinical outcomes of patients following targeted therapy remains limited. In a 14‑year cohort, cardiac comorbidities and toxicities among patients with stage‑IV NSCLC treated with targeted therapy were identified.

Background: The clinical use of flattening filter free (FFF) radiotherapy has significantly increased in recent years due to its effective enhancement of dose rates and reduction of scatter dose. A proposal has been made to adjust the incident electron angle of the accelerator to expand the application of FFF beams in areas such as large planning target volumes (PTVs). However, the inherent softening characteristics and non-uniformity of lateral dose distribution in FFF beams inevitably lead to increased dosimetry errors, especially for ionization chambers widely used in clinical practice, which may result in serious accidents during FFF radiotherapy.

Biodegradable silk fibroin membranes for potential localized treatment of melanoma: optimized preparation andstudy.

Biomed Mater

December 2024

Food Science and Technology Program, Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology, BNU-HKBU United International College, Zhuhai, Guangdong 519087, People's Republic of China.

As a lethal skin cancer, melanoma is highly aggressive and metastatic with high recurrence rates and the common therapy is surgical resection followed by chemotherapy. To minimize the side effects of chemotherapeutic drugs and prevent tumor recurrence, localized therapy is a more suitable treatment method. Here, a fully biodegradable silk fibroin (SF) membrane loaded with the therapeutic drug doxorubicin (Dox) is fabricated for potential localized chemotherapy of melanoma.

Objective: To explore the effectiveness of Tai Chi on cognitive function in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

Methods: According to the PRISMA guidelines, randomized controlled trial (RCT) literature on the efficacy of Tai Chi on MCI patients was searched in China National Knowledge Network (CNKI), China Biomedical Literature Database (CBM), Wanfang Data, China Scientific Journal Database (VIP), PubMed, Embase, Duxiu Database, Web of Science and Cochrane Library from their inception to April 2024. The risk of bias in each study was appraised using the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool using Revman 5.

Background: Endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) is a crucial factor in the progression of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, the key genes associated with COPD and immune cell infiltration remain to be elucidated. Therefore, this study aimed to identify biomarkers pertinent to the diagnosis of ERS in COPD and delve deeper into the association between pivotal genes and their possible interactions with immune cells.

Background: Neonatal intestinal malrotation complicated by midgut volvulus is a serious and common life-threatening complication. When the midgut volvulus is prolonged or severe, it can lead to secondary necrosis of the entire midgut, with high mortality rates. Therefore, improving understanding the clinical characteristics of this condition is necessary to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment.

  • Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) presents significant treatment challenges due to high recurrence rates and absence of known therapeutic targets; however, tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) have been associated with better survival rates in TNBC cases.
  • A unique case of TNBC, named Tall Cell Carcinoma with Reversed Polarity (TCCRP), was studied, revealing low TILs infiltration but a good prognosis in a 54-year-old woman despite being triple-negative for common markers.
  • The findings suggest TCCRP may have distinct biological behaviors with low TILs, possibly due to the presence of Cancer-Associated Fibroblasts (CAF) that could hinder anti-tumor immunity, warrant
