Twenty-nine patients on hemodialysis (HD) and 29 patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) were studied. Serum calcium and phosphorous levels were similar in the 2 groups. Serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels were determined by 4 different methods.

The Framingham study demonstrated that 25% of all episodes of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) do not present clinical symptoms, and are later recognized in a routine ECG. Silent ischaemia is frequently found after acute myocardial infarction, and has been identified in 25-60% of the patients according to the results of different studies and the different criteria employed for diagnosis. Silent ischaemia after AMI, as well as angina, is related with the presence and extent of severe coronary lesions located in the infarct related coronary artery or in other vessel not responsible for the acute episode of necrosis.

We present three cases of multiple sclerosis (MS) with tumoural manifestation during the disease in two cases, and as the first symptom in one case. Surgery is the first option, when a new patient presents with clinical features suggestive of a brain tumour. When an MS patient presents with these symptoms, corticoid treatment should be initiated and only if mass effect in computerized tomography (CT) persists, should surgery be considered.

In order to know whether these changes could be expected or appropriate, it is necessary to explore the general and particular conditions which can alter peritoneal physiology. Three aspects, smoking, intraabdominal hyperpressure and and omentectomy are situations which have not been included in the studies of peritoneal physiology.
