The aging process significantly impacts lung physiology and is a major risk factor for chronic respiratory diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), asthma, and non-IPF interstitial lung fibrosis. This narrative clinical review explores the molecular and biochemical hallmarks of aging, such as oxidative stress, telomere attrition, genomic instability, epigenetic modifications, proteostasis loss, and impaired macroautophagy, and their roles in lung senescence. Central to this process are senescent cells, which, through the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP), contribute to chronic inflammation and tissue dysfunction.

Medication non-adherence remains a substantial obstacle in asthma care, prompting the exploration of novel therapeutic modalities that prioritize rapid symptom relief, anti-inflammatory activity, and facilitate patients' compliance. This task is well-served by the following new form of therapy: inhaled triple-combination medications ICS/LABA/LAMA (inhaled glucocorticosteroid/long-acting beta2-agonist/long-acting muscarinic antagonist). The integration of three medications within a singular inhalation device culminates in the reduction of the effective dose of the principal therapeutic agent for asthma management, namely ICS.

: The recommended duration for pulmonary rehabilitation stands at a minimum of six weeks; however, this stipulation may pose constraints in various countries due to financial limitations imposed by insurance companies and/or national health funds, as is the case in Poland. Consequently, our study endeavors to analyze the short-term outcomes stemming from a condensed three-week PR regimen administered to patients diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and the concomitance of these conditions (COPD-A)-this is an approach that is standard in the rehabilitation protocols endorsed by our national health fund. : Patients diagnosed with COPD, asthma, and COPD-A, referred to the PR program, underwent retrospective analysis to evaluate the short-term efficacy of a three-week PR program.

Lung transthoracic ultrasound (LUS) is an accessible and widely applicable method of rapidly imaging certain pathologies in the thorax. LUS proves to be an optimal tool in respiratory emergency medicine, applicable in various clinical settings. However, despite the rapid development of bedside ultrasonography, or point-of-care (POCUS) ultrasound, there remains a scarcity of knowledge about the use of LUS in pre-hospital settings.

Hemoptysis is a life-threatening emergency and a possible first sign of pulmonary tuberculosis. Minor hemoptysis, as a possible clinical aspect of adult tuberculosis, usually has limited course and in most cases, is resolved with antitubercular therapy. However, massive hemoptysis is a life-threatening condition associated with a mortality rate of >50% in the absence of well-timed and proper handling.

Unselective use of antibiotics to treat children with COVID-19 is one of the major issues during the pandemic in Serbia. Thus far, there has been no evidence about the predictors of multiple antibiotic use in the treatment of children with COVID-19. The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of antibiotic use, as well as to examine demographic and clinical factors associated with a greater number of antibiotics and with a longer antibiotic treatment administered to hospitalized children with COVID-19 during the lockdown in Serbia.

Despite growing knowledge about transmission and relatively wide access to prophylaxis, the world is still facing a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS CoV 2) global pandemic. Under these circumstances telemedicine emerges as a powerful tool for safe at-home surveillance after a hospital discharge; the data on when to safely release a patient after acute COVID-19 is scarce. Reckoning an urgent need for improving outpatient management and possibly fatal complications of the post-COVID period, we performed the pilot telemonitoring program described below.
