Translation, cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the Short Screening Instrument for Psychological Problems in Enuresis for use in Brazil (SSIPPE-Br).

Objective: Enuresis is associated with attentional and emotional comorbidities in 20 to 30 % of cases. The Short Screening Instrument for Psychological Problems in Enuresis (SSIPPE) is a questionnaire that allows the initial screening of these comorbidities. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the SSIPPE for Brazilian children and adolescents (SSIPPE-Br).

Enuresis and upper airway obstruction: BNP and ADH hormones behavior before and after airway surgery.

Introduction: Upper airway obstruction (UAO) is a common condition in all pediatric population, with a 27% prevalence. Primary monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis (PMNE) is a condition related to UAO in 8% to 47% of these children. The specific pathophysiological mechanism of this bond is not well understood.

Aim: Three surgical techniques for inguinal hernia repair are currently validated. Few studies have compared results among Lichtenstein and transabdominal preperitoneal (TAPP) laparoscopic approach obtained at an early step of the learning curve. This study aims to compare the early treatment results between the Liechtenstein technique and the laparoscopic TAPP approach to provide a basis for the surgeon's decision-making.

Epidemiology and costs of surgical treatment of developmental dysplasia of hip in the Brazilian Public Health System in a decade.

Objective: To describe and analyze the epidemiology and costs of surgical treatment of hip dysplasia in the Brazilian Public Health System.

Methods: An ecological analytical study that evaluated a time series and the geographic distribution of surgical treatment of hip dysplasia in Brazil. Frequencies of cases, number of cases and associated factors were analyzed.

Management of neurogenic bladder dysfunction in children update and recommendations on medical treatment.

Introduction: Defective closure of the neural tube affects different systems and generates sequelae, such as neurogenic bladder (NB). Myelomeningocele (MMC) represents the most frequent and most severe cause of NB in children. Damage of the renal parenchyma in children with NB acquired in postnatal stages is preventable given adequate evaluation, follow-up and proactive management.

Pre-Operative Scapular Rehabilitation for Arthroscopic Repair of Traumatic Rotator Cuff Tear: Results of a Randomized Clinical Trial.

Background: Pre-operative rehabilitation aims to improve the functional capacity of the individual to enable him/her to prepare for the period of inactivity associated with the surgical procedure.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of preoperative scapular rehabilitation before arthroscopic repair of traumatic rotator cuff injury, regarding pain, range of motion of the shoulder, and functional activity.

The Effects of Physical Exercise on Pain Management in Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review with Metanalysis.

 The present study verified, through a systematic review with meta-analysis, the effects of a rehabilitation, physical training program for the treatment of pain and muscle strength in knee osteoarthritis (OA).  We analyzed studies published between 2008 and 2018 referenced at the Medline (National Library of Medicine) database, selecting 7 randomized controlled clinical trials about exercise programs to improve pain and muscle strength in patients with knee OA with Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PeDro) score higher than 8. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) systematization was used to prepare this review, and a meta-analysis was carried out to obtain mathematical evidence the outcomes of physical exercise on pain.

Psychological Intervention with Parents Improves Treatment Results and Reduces Punishment in Children with Enuresis: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the impact of psychological intervention with parents of children with enuresis on treatment outcome.

Materials And Methods: A total of 66 children with enuresis were randomized into 2 groups. All children received urotherapy orientation and psychological counseling.

Brazilian consensus on vesicoureteral reflux-recommendations for clinical practice.

Introduction: Vesicoureteral Reflux (VUR) is characterized by a retrograde flow of urine from the bladder into the ureters and kidneys. It is one of the most common urinary tract anomalies and the major cause of urinary tract infection (UTI) in the first years of life. If not properly diagnosed and treated can lead to recurrent UTI, renal scar and, in severe cases, to end stage renal disease.

Brazilian consensus in enuresis-recomendations for clinical practice.

Introduction: Enuresis, defined as an intermittent urinary incontinence that occurs during sleep, is a frequent condition, occurring in about 10% of children at 7 years of age. However, it is frequently neglected by the family and by the primary care provider, leaving many of those children without treatment. Despite of many studies in Enuresis and recent advances in scientific and technological knowledge there is still considerable heterogeneity in evaluation methods and therapeutic approaches.

Comparative Study of Function and Quality of Life in Patients with Fracture of the Tibial Plateau Operated with Locked or Conventional Plates.

Objective: To compare clinical, functional, and quality of life outcomes between patients with tibial plateau fractures operated with locked or conventional plates, and to compare the costs of these implants.

Methods: This was a comparative cross-sectional study of a consecutive series of patients with tibial plateau fractures treated surgically from August 2015 to June 2016. Patients < 18 years old, those unable to answer the questionnaires or to attend the outpatient reassessment, polytrauma patients, those with associated injuries on the ipsilateral limb, and patients who had not undergone treatment with bone plates were excluded.

Topical estradiol increases epidermal thickness and dermal collagen of foreskin prior to hypospadia surgery - Randomized double blinded controlled trial.

Introduction: The use of preoperative topical testosterone stimulation prior to hypospadias correction aims to increase penile size and achieve better surgical results. Topical estradiol has been shown to improve the quality of skin in other sites, but its use in boys with hypospadia has not yet been elucidated.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the primary effects in epidermal thickness and collagen distribution of estradiol compared to testosterone and placebo in skin of prepuce before hypospadia surgery.

Objective: To conduct a longitudinal investigation of cardiac vagal activity (CVA) by measuring resting HR and calculating the cardiac vagal index (CVI) in individuals undergoing sympathectomy for the treatment of primary hyperhidrosis.

Introduction: Ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) is a common congenital anomaly leading to varying degrees of hydronephrosis (HN), ranging from no apparent effect on the renal function to atrophy. Evaluation of these children is based on Diuretic Renal Scintigraphy (DRS) and Ultrasonography (US). Recent studies have suggested that new parameters of conventional and color Doppler ultrasonography (CDUS) may be useful in discriminating which kidneys are obstructed.

Applicability of Laparoscopic Nephrectomy in the Treatment of Multicystic Dysplastic Kidney: Sorting Out Surgical Indication.

Introduction We evaluated the applicability of laparoscopic nephrectomy in the treatment of multicystic dysplastic kidney (MCDK) in children, including procedures performed by resident physicians or trainees in surgical urology. Methods We retrospectively evaluated the medical records of 20 children with MCDK who underwent laparoscopic nephrectomy over a six-year period. Data collected included gender, laterality of the affected kidney, age at the time of surgery, the largest diameter of the multicystic kidney and associated urological diagnoses, surgical, and postoperative data.

Association between renal cysts and abdominal aortic aneurysm: A case-control study.

Objective: To investigate the positive association between the presence of simple renal cysts (SRCs) and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA).

Method: In a retrospective case-control study including subjects aged > 50 years, we evaluated the incidence of SRCs on computed tomography (CT) scan. We compared 91 consecutive patients with AAA referred from the Division of Vascular Surgery and 396 patients without AAA, randomly selected after being matched by age and gender from 3,186 consecutive patients who underwent abdominal CT.

Prolonged toilet training in children with Down syndrome: a case-control study.

Objectives: Children with Down syndrome have delayed psychomotor development, which is a factor that influences the level of difficulty in toilet training. The current study aims to estimate the age toilet training starts and completes in children with DS compared to children with normal psychomotor development and to evaluate the method and type of toilet training most frequently used, as well as its association with lower urinary tract symptoms and functional constipation.

Methods: A case-control study was carried out from 2010 to 2015.

Echocardiographic evaluation of left ventricular mass index in children with hypospadias after hormonal stimulation with topical testosterone: A randomized controlled trial.

Introduction: Testosterone is often used in the preoperative period of hypospadias surgery. Previous studies have demonstrated the presence of androgen receptors in cardiac myocytes that can modulate the phenotype. The use of supraphysiological doses of androgens can lead to toxicity on the heart muscle and, in some cases, to left ventricular hypertrophy.

Background: The effectiveness of antiviral therapy with pegylated interferon and ribavirin for chronic hepatitis C is far from ideal and presents several adverse events. Among such events, there is the depressive episode that can even lead to treatment discontinuity.

Objective: Analyze the incidence of depressive episodes in patients with chronic hepatitis C treated with pegylated interferon (IFN-PEG) and ribavirin, as well as the possible factors associated with its occurrence and its impact on patients' sustained virological response.

Association between Asthma and Primary Nocturnal Enuresis in Children.

Purpose: Enuresis, sleep respiratory disorders and asthma compromise the quality of sleep in children and may occur in association with each other. An association between sleep respiratory disorders and enuresis has already been demonstrated. According to united airways disease abnormalities of the upper and lower airways may coexist.

Increased Risk of Physical Punishment among Enuretic Children with Family History of Enuresis.

Purpose: Some parents blame their children for bedwetting and, therefore, punish them. This study aimed to assess the rate of punishment experienced by enuretic children and associated causative factors.
