Real-world evidence of survival outcomes in breast cancer subtypes after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in a Brazilian reference center.

Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC), traditionally used for locally advanced disease, is now applied for operable disease, particularly to treat aggressive breast cancer (BC). This study aimed to characterize the pathological complete response (pCR) and its relationship with overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) among BC patients receiving NAC in a Brazilian public reference center, as well as the association between pCR and BC subtypes.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study used a comprehensive BC database from a Brazilian women's health reference center, including patients diagnosed between 2011 and 2020 who underwent NAC.

The role of sphenoid bone in basilar invagination pathophysiology.

Basilar invagination (BI) is characterized by rostral dislocation of the cervical spine toward the skull base. The craniometrics of the skull base have shown significant differences among craniocervical junction malformations. The sphenoid bone is the center of the skull base; however, no study has evaluated this bone in cases of BI.

Background: Chronic conditions increase the risk of invasive pneumococcal diseases (IPD). Pneumococcal vaccination remarkably reduced IPD morbimortality in vulnerable populations. In Brazil, pneumococcal vaccines are included in the National Immunization Program (PNI): PCV10 for < 2 years-old, and PPV23 for high risk-patients aged ≥ 2 years and institutionalized ≥ 60 years.

Background: Nut consumption has been related to improvements on cardiometabolic parameters and reduction in the severity of atherosclerosis mainly in primary cardiovascular prevention. The objective of this trial is to evaluate the effects of the Brazilian Cardioprotective Diet (DIeta CArdioprotetora Brasileira, DICA Br) based on consumption of inexpensive locally accessible foods supplemented or not with mixed nuts on cardiometabolic features in patients with previous myocardial infarction (MI).

Methods: DICA-NUTS study is a national, multicenter, randomized 16-week follow-up clinical trial.

Background: Idiopathic scoliosis is accompanied by postural alterations, instability of gait, and functional disabilities. The objective was to verify radiographic parameters (coronal and sagittal) of adolescents with idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) pre- and post-surgery with direct vertebral rotation (DVR), associated with type 1 osteotomies in all segments (except the most proximal) and type 2 in the periapical vertebrae of the curves.

Methods: A prospective study design was employed in which 41 AIS were evaluated and compared pre- and post-surgery.

Recent studies show that sleep disturbances, especially obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) may be a manifestation of metabolic syndrome (MetS). Method:: Evaluation of patients hospitalized for eCOPD, with ≥ 10 pack/years and ≥ 1 previous spirometry with airway obstruction over the course of one year at the pulmonology service of a general hospital, applying: COPD assessment test (CAT); mMRc and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for dyspnea; hospitalized anxiety and depression questionnaire (HAD); Divo's comorbidities and Cote index; spirometry; and laboratory tests including number of eosinophils, C-reactive protein (CRP), brain natriuretic protein (BNP).

Development of exclusively cutaneous sarcoidosis in patient with rheumatoid arthritis during treatment with etanercept.

We report the case of a patient with rheumatoid arthritis who, after 2 months of treatment with etanercept, showed disseminated asymptomatic violaceous papules. Biopsy of the skin lesion showed chronic granulomatous dermatitis with negative staining for fungi and acid-fast bacilli (AFB). After discontinuation of etanercept, the patient's condition improved.
