Heterotopic hepatic tissue is a rare development anomaly, exhibiting diverse forms and locations. We present a case report of an asymptomatic woman in her 40s who had an 8 cm mass in the left hypochondrium detected on routine ultrasound, which was initially suspected to be a tumour. Further investigation revealed that the mass had a similar enhancement to the liver on gadoxetate disodium-enhanced MRI and presented a connection with the original liver via vascular pedicle, favouring the diagnosis of accessory liver lobe (ALL).

Propose: To assess the interobserver variability in MRI measurements of mesorectal invasion depth (MID) in rectal adenocarcinomas primarily staged as T3, by determining the level of interobserver agreement in the differentiation of individual T3 substages and of T3a-b vs. T3c-d disease, between readers with different levels of expertise.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of 60 patients classified by MRI as having T3 rectal cancers was performed.

Placental site trophoblastic tumour (PSTT) is a very rare form of gestational trophoblastic disease that grows slowly, secretes low levels of beta-subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG), presents late-onset metastatic potential and is resistant to several chemotherapy regimens. Here, we report a case of PSTT in a 36-year-old woman who presented with amenorrhea and persistently elevated serum level of β-hCG after a miscarriage. Transvaginal ultrasound revealed a hypovascular ill-defined solid lesion of the uterine fundus and MRI showed a tumour infiltrating the external myometrium with discrete early enhancement and signal restriction on diffusion-weighted imaging.

Walled-off pancreatic necrosis (WOPN) is a rare complication of pancreatitis. We present the case of a woman in her eighties admitted for diffuse abdominal pain. She had a palpable abdominal mass and the CT scan showed necrosis throughout the tail of the pancreas, a peripancreatic and retrogastric hydroaerial collection (19 cm of diameter) and a calculus in the main biliary duct, thus establishing a diagnosis of emphysematous necrotising obstructive pancreatitis.

Introduction: Coronary intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is increasingly important in catheterization laboratories due to its positive prognostic impact. This study aims to characterize the use of IVUS in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in Portugal.
Methods: A retrospective observational study was performed based on the Portuguese Registry on Interventional Cardiology of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology.

Primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystic neoplasms (PRMCN) with borderline malignancy are exceptionally rare tumours with lack of pathognomonic clinical and imaging-specific features. Here, we report a case of PRMCN with borderline malignancy in a 62-year-old woman who presented with abdominal pain. Imaging studies revealed a well-defined cystic mass on the right flank in close relation with the cecum and caecal appendix, without other findings suggestive of malignancy.

Methods: We performed a retrospective study, using data from the National Registry of Interventional Cardiology (RNCI 2006-2012, Portugal) with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients treated with P-PCI. The primary outcome, in-hospital mortality, was analysed through adjusted odds ratio (aOR) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI).

The coexistence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) appears to be unusual and the prevalence of patients who carry the dual diagnosis is currently unknown. We hereby present a case of a C4 deficient HIV-1 positive Caucasian female under highly active antiretroviral therapy for the past eight years, admitted to hospital with an aggressive and potentially fatal clinical presentation of SLE. There was a favorable outcome despite a significant diagnostic delay.

Introduction And Objectives: The aim of the present paper was to report trends in coronary angioplasty for the treatment of ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in Portugal.
Methods: Prospective multicenter data from the Portuguese National Registry of Interventional Cardiology (RNCI) and official data from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS) were studied to analyze percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures for STEMI from 2002 to 2013.
Results: In 2013, 3524 primary percutaneous coronary intervention (p-PCI) procedures were performed (25% of all procedures), an increase of 315% in comparison to 2002 (16% of all interventions).

This paper reports on a study conducted to determine the incidence of phlebitis related to peripheral cannulae, and its predisposing factors in a general surgery department. Phlebitis is a serious health problem that affects a large proportion of hospitalized patients receiving intravenous therapy. A data collection tool was developed based on the previous literature and was completed between 15 October and 30 November 2010 in a general surgery department.
