Background: Omalizumab is highly effective in controlling chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) symptoms; however, patients can experience symptom return on treatment discontinuation. Pivotal clinical trials have identified 2 categories of patients who experience symptom return: rapid and slow.
Objective: The objective of this study was to identify potential predictors of the speed of symptom return after stopping omalizumab treatment.

Background: The objective of this study is to present the results of cement spacer sonication in the second stage of two-stage treatment of shoulder arthroplasty infection and to determine the rate of positive cultures in the second-stage surgery in shoulder arthroplasty and its meaning.
Methods: Twenty-one patients (22 cement spacers) treated with two-stage surgery because of a shoulder arthroplasty infection were included. In the second stage, the cement spacer was sent for sonication and at least four tissue cultures were obtained.

Objective: To determine the prevalence of fatigue in our cohort as well as the factors to which it is associated, its relationship with demographic variables, vitamin D levels, treatment, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) symptoms and disease activity.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out including 102 consecutive female patients with SLE (American College of Rheumatology 1997 criteria) who attended the Parc de Salut Mar between January 2012 and May 2014. Variables collected were: sociodemographic data, vitamin D supplementation, fatigue VAS, pharmacological treatment, main serological markers of SLE, and plasma levels of 25(OH)-vitD.

Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is the second most common malignancy in humans and approximately 5% metastasize, usually to regional lymph nodes. Epigenetic regulation of gene expression may allow tumoral cells to acquire new functions in order to escape from the primary tumor. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression and function of proteins of the Polycomb family of epigenetic regulators in the metastatic process of cSCC.

We investigated whether pre-treatment with statins is associated with surrogate markers of amyloid and hypertensive angiopathies in patients who need to start long-term oral anticoagulation therapy. A prospective multicenter study of patients naive for oral anticoagulants, who had an acute cardioembolic stroke. MRI was performed at admission to evaluate microbleeds, leukoaraiosis and superficial siderosis.

Background: Family history (FH) of pancreatic cancer (PC) has been associated with an increased risk of PC, but little is known regarding the role of inherited/environmental factors or that of FH of other comorbidities in PC risk. We aimed to address these issues using multiple methodological approaches.
Methods: Case-control study including 1431 PC cases and 1090 controls and a reconstructed-cohort study (N = 16 747) made up of their first-degree relatives (FDR).

Reduced muscle activity leads to muscle atrophy and function loss in patients and animal models. Satellite cells (SCs) are postnatal muscle stem cells that play a pivotal role in skeletal muscle regeneration following injury. The regenerative potential, satellite cell numbers, and markers during recovery following immobilization of the hindlimb for 7 days were explored.

Glioblastoma (GB) is the most common brain malignancy and accounts for over 50% of all high-grade gliomas. Radiotherapy (RT) with concomitant and adjuvant temozolomide (TMZ) chemotherapy is the current standard of care for patients with newly diagnosed GB up to age 70. Recently, a new standard of care has been adopted for elderly patients (≥ 65 years) based on short course of RT and TMZ.

Despite the improvement in the quality of life of patients with SLE due to scientific and technological advances, SLE remains a disease that over the years may produce irreversible damage to patients. Osteoporosis and secondary bone fractures are two of the major causes of irreparable injury in patients with SLE. Vitamin D insufficiency may play a vital role both in reduced bone mineral density (BMD) and in the appearance of fractures, although its mechanisms of action are still unclear.

Telangiectasias are the clinical manifestation of diverse processes affecting blood vessels. Herein we report the case of a 60-year-old man presenting long-standing asymptomatic annular telangiectatic lesions with whitish centers. The histopathologic examination revealed thickened blood dermal vessel walls in the superficial dermis showing reduplication of the basement membrane resembling cutaneous collagenous vasculopathy (CCV).

Background: The role of lymph node dissection (LND) in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is still under debate. We aimed to assess the utilization rates of LND over time in Europe.
Methods: A multi-institutional database of 13,581 RCC patients who underwent radical nephrectomy (RN) or nephron sparing surgery (NSS) between 1988 and 2014 was created within an European consortium.

The term 'sclerosing diseases of the skin' comprises specific dermatological entities, which have fibrotic changes of the skin in common. These diseases mostly manifest in different clinical subtypes according to cutaneous and extracutaneous involvement and can sometimes be difficult to distinguish from each other. The present guideline focuses on characteristic clinical and histopathological features, diagnostic scores and the serum autoantibodies most useful for differential diagnosis.

Background: A non-negligible proportion of individuals diagnosed with cT1 renal cell carcinoma (RCC) are upstaged to pT3a at final pathology. Few data on oncological outcomes for these patients are available to determine whether partial nephrectomy (PN) might jeopardise cancer control.
Objective: To assess, within an international multi-institutional collaboration, whether PN might undermine cancer control relative to radical nephrectomy (RN) in RCC patients with unexpected pT3a disease.

Basal cell carcinomas (BCC) are the most frequent tumours in humans and normally appear in photoexposed areas of the skin. It is widely accepted that BCCs originate at follicular stem cells and consequently are very rare in nonhairy areas. Here, we report 4 cases of vulvar BCC, 3 of which were located in a vulvar semimucous area, a nonphotoexposed area, and a nonhairy area.

Importance: Pigmented facial macules on photodamaged skin are a clinical, dermoscopic, and histopathologic challenge.
Objectives: To clinically and dermoscopically characterize, by means of reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM), ambiguous pigmented facial macules and establish a correlation between RCM, histopathologic, and immunohistochemical findings.
Design, Setting, And Participants: A prospective study of ambiguous pigmented facial macules on photodamaged skin was conducted in a tertiary referral center for dermatology between January 1, 2009, and December 31, 2015.
