Frailty in cirrhosis or advanced chronic liver disease (ACLD) is a relevant prognostic factor. In the present study, we aimed to analyze potential biomarkers associated with frailty and its improvement in patients with ACLD. We analyzed the serum of outpatients with ACLD who participated in a previous study (Román, Hepatol Commun 2024) in which frailty was assessed using the liver frailty index (LFI), and patients who were frail or prefrail were randomized to a multifactorial intervention (home exercise, branched-chain amino acids, and probiotics) or control for 12 months.

The main consequences of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections are cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), both associated with frequent hospitalization. The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of universal HBV vaccination in Spain on chronic HBV-related hospital discharges from 2005 to 2021. Using data from the Minimum Basic Data Set of the Spanish National Health System, we calculated the hospital discharge rate ratio (HDRR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) values for chronic HBV-related discharges between 2005 and 2021.

Topic Importance: The incidence of pulmonary nodules and masses in non-HIV immunocompromised patients has significantly increased due to advancements in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) and solid organ transplantation (SOT) and the widespread use of chemotherapy and immunosuppressive therapies. Differentiating between infectious and noninfectious causes is critical for appropriate diagnosis and management, especially because radiologic and clinical presentations can be nonspecific.

Review Findings: This review provides a practical framework for evaluating pulmonary nodules and masses in non-HIV immunocompromised patients, incorporating clinical, immunologic, and radiologic features.

This paper introduces a deep learning method for myocardial strain analysis while also evaluating the efficacy of the method across a public and a private dataset for cardiac pathology discrimination.We measure the global and regional myocardial strain in cSAX CMR images by first identifying a ROI centered in the LV, obtaining the cardiac structures (LV, RV and Myo) and estimating the motion of the myocardium. Finally, we compute the strain for the heart coordinate system and report the global and regional strain.

Objectives: The purpose of the study was to compare patient outcomes between APP and housestaff teams in the cardiac intensive care unit (CICU).

Methods: This retrospective study, spanning March 2022 to July 2023, compares patient characteristics and outcomes between two CICU teams embedded in the same CICU at a large urban academic hospital: one staffed by housestaff and the other by APPs (80% physician assistants, 20% nurse practitioners) who each had approximately 1 to 2 years of experience in the CICU.

This study aims to develop a Machine Learning model to assess the risks faced by COVID-19 patients in a hospital setting, focusing specifically on predicting the complications leading to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admission or mortality, which are minority classes compared to the majority class of discharged patients. We operate within a multiclass framework comprising three distinct classes, and address the challenge of dataset imbalance, a common source of model bias. To effectively manage this, we introduce the Multi-Thresholding meta-algorithm (MTh), an innovative output-level methodology that extends traditional thresholding from binary to multiclass classification.
