The surgical management of posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injuries can be challenging. As most PCL injuries occur in a flexed knee position, the anterolateral bundle is thought to be more commonly injured than the posteromedial bundle (PMB); however, in hyperextension, the PMB plays a more significant role. The smaller size of the PMB compared with the anterolateral bundle and its lower strength may explain why isolated hyperextension PMB injuries can be easily overlooked.

Ocular axial length influence on peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness measurement with optical coherence tomography.

Arch Soc Esp Oftalmol (Engl Ed)

August 2023

Universidad Pompeu Fabra, Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud y de la Vida, Barcelona, Spain; Departamento de Neurooftalmología, Hospital de la Esperanza, Consorci Hospitalari Parc de Salut Mar, Barcelona, Spain.

Limb length discrepancy after total knee arthroplasty may contribute to suboptimal functional results.

Eur J Orthop Surg Traumatol

October 2020

Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Consorci Parc de Salut Mar., Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, Passeig Maritim, 25, 08003, Barcelona, Spain.

Purpose: Limb length discrepancy (LLD) has been related to inferior outcomes after total hip arthroplasty (THA), but few studies have dealt with the LLD in primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The aims of the study were to examine the incidence of LLD after TKA and how it can influence in the outcomes scores.

Objective: Although topical antibiotics have been used as antimicrobial prophylaxis after ocular surgery, recent studies have determined that intracameral cefuroxime at the end of surgery significantly reduce the risk to suffer an infection and suggest that the use of topical antibiotics in the prophylaxis of infectious postoperative endophthalmitis (IPOE) is controversial. Moreover, there is no evidence to confirm the higher effectiveness of topical ciprofloxacin, considered the standard of care, or topical azithromycin in preventing IPOE of cataract surgeries.

Methods: IPOE topical prophylaxis was performed with two different strategies: with azithromycin from January 1st, 2010 to December 31st, 2014 (group I) and with ciprofloxacin from January 1st, 2015 to January 31st, 2017 (group II).

Aim: Assessing the demand for radiotherapy in Spain based on existing evidence to estimate the human resources and equipment needed so that every person in Spain has access to high-quality radiotherapy when they need it.

Material And Methods: We used data from the European Cancer Observatory on the estimated incidence of cancer in Spain in 2012, along with the evidence-based indications for radiotherapy developed by the Australian CCORE project, to obtain an optimal radiotherapy utilisation proportion (OUP) for each tumour.

Results: About 50.

In recent years, major advances in our understanding of the molecular biology of lung cancer, together with significant improvements in radiotherapy technologies, have revolutionized the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This has led to the development of new therapies that target molecular mutations specific to each tumor type, acting on the cell surface antigens or intracellular signaling pathways, or directly affecting cell survival. At the same time, ablative dose radiotherapy can be delivered safely in the context of metastatic disease.

Purpose: Concurrent chemoradiation therapy (con-CRT) is recommended for fit patients with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (LA-NSCLC) but is associated with toxicity, and observed survival continues to be limited. Identifying factors associated with early mortality could improve patient selection and identify strategies to improve prognosis.

Methods And Materials: Analysis of a multi-institutional LA-NSCLC database consisting of 1245 patients treated with con-CRT in 13 institutions was performed to identify factors predictive of 180-day survival.
