Diabetes mellitus is a significant risk factor for the development of heart disease (HD), with heart failure (HF) being one of the early manifestations of the disease in this population. The diagnostic process is challenging and contributes to a significant number of undiagnosed cases of HD among individuals with diabetes. This is largely due to the non-specific nature of symptoms and signs in the initial stages of disease, making early detection elusive.

Background: Mucosal healing (MH) is an established treatment goal in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, various definitions of MH exist. We aimed to identify how MH is defined in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD).

Background: There is a lack of up-to-date real-life evidence on antiretroviral therapy (ART) strategies among people living with HIV (PLWH) in Portugal. This study aimed to describe the treatment strategy used in PLWH either initiating or switching ART.
Methods: Non-interventional, cross-sectional, multicenter study carried out between December 2019 and October 2021 in Portugal.

Background: Constitutional mismatch repair deficiency (CMMRD) syndrome is a rare and aggressive cancer predisposition syndrome. Because a scarcity of data on this condition contributes to management challenges and poor outcomes, we aimed to describe the clinical spectrum, cancer biology, and impact of genetics on patient survival in CMMRD.
Methods: In this cohort study, we collected cross-sectional and longitudinal data on all patients with CMMRD, with no age limits, registered with the International Replication Repair Deficiency Consortium (IRRDC) across more than 50 countries.

Introduction: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) contributes significantly to morbidity and mortality in connective tissue disease (CTD). Early detection and accurate diagnosis are essential for informing treatment decisions and prognosis in this setting. Clear guidance on CTD-ILD screening, however, is lacking.

Influenza affects millions of people worldwide each year and can lead to severe complications, hospitalizations, and even death, especially among vulnerable populations such as older adults and those with chronic medical conditions. Annual vaccination is considered the most effective measure for preventing influenza and its complications. Despite the widespread availability of influenza vaccines, however, vaccination coverage rates remain suboptimal in several countries.

Introduction: Long-chain fatty acid oxidation disorders (LC-FAOD) are inborn errors of metabolism, also identified in newborn screening in Portugal. They interfere with adequate energy utilization, namely by muscles, heart, and liver. Treatment aims to maintain patients in an anabolic state, with increased caloric intake, using carbohydrates and medium-chain fatty acids.

Background: STARDUST, a phase 3b randomised trial, compared ustekinumab therapeutic strategies in patients with Crohn's disease (CD) using early endoscopic assessment and treat-to-target (T2T) versus standard of care (SoC).
Aim: To assess the efficacy of ustekinumab extended treatment in a long-term extension (LTE) of up to 104 weeks with dosing adapted according to clinical, biomarker and endoscopy outcomes.
Methods: Adults with moderately-to-severely active CD received intravenous ustekinumab approximating 6 mg/kg at Week 0 and subcutaneous ustekinumab 90 mg at Week 8.

Glucose homeostasis is essential for energy production and the central nervous system function, depending on glycogen metabolism. Glycogen storage diseases (GSD) are caused by enzymatic defects of the glycogen degradation and mainly involve the liver since the inhibition of hepatic glycogen breakdown results in its excessive storage and hepatomegaly. Other findings are hypoglycemia and hyperlactatemia and consequent neurological symptoms.

Context: Radiotherapy of the pelvis is a widely used method for the treatment of malignancies, and local complications including pain following pelvic radiation therapy are acknowledged complications.
Objective: The primary objective is to assess the clinical effectiveness and safety of pharmacological therapies on postradiation pelvic pain.
Evidence Acquisition: A systematic review of the use of different pharmacological treatments in the management of post-radiation pelvic pain was conducted (PROSPERO-ID: CRD42021249026).

The prevalence of obesity has doubled, with a concomitant increase in cardiovascular disease. This study aimed to compare the characteristics of visceral, subcutaneous and peri-aortic adipose tissue determined with computed tomography (CT) scans and to correlate them with cardiovascular risk factors, anthropometric measures and medication. An observational and prospective study was conducted, and 177 subjects were included.

Background: The increased focus on quality indicators (QIs) and the use of clinical registries in real-world cancer studies have increased compliance with therapeutic standards and patient survival. The European Society of Breast Cancer Specialists (EUSOMA) established QIs to assess compliance with current standards in breast cancer care.
Methods: This retrospective study is part of H360 Health Analysis and aims to describe compliance with EUSOMA QIs in breast cancer management in different hospital settings (public vs.

Introduction: Liquid biopsies based on plasma circulating tumour deoxyribonucleic acid (ctDNA) have shown promise in monitoring lung cancer evolution. The expression of ctDNA across time, its relationship with clinicopathological parameters and its association with lung cancer progression through imaging allow us to weigh how useful ctDNA could be in monitoring surgically resectable lung cancer. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of ctDNA analysis implementation in early-stage lung cancer.

Background: STARDUST is a phase 3b randomized controlled trial comparing two ustekinumab treatment strategies in patients with Crohn's disease (CD): treat-to-target (T2T) versus standard of care (SoC).
Objective: We investigated the effect of a T2T or SoC ustekinumab treatment strategy on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and work productivity and activity impairment (WPAI) over a 2-year follow-up period.
Methods: At Week 16, adult patients with moderate-to-severe active CD were randomized 1:1 to either T2T or SoC treatment groups.
