Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the effectiveness of 99mTc-HMPAO-leukocyte-labeled scintigraphy (LLS) for diagnosing and monitoring inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in 33 children, showing its potential in identifying inflammation.
  • LLS was compared against clinical symptoms, biological markers, and various imaging techniques with results indicating LLS correlated well with other tests, particularly in detecting IBD and assessing its severity.
  • The findings suggest LLS is a valuable tool for screening IBD in children, helping to detect inflammation even when other markers are normal and supporting follow-up assessments, especially during suspected relapses.

The idiopathic hypertrophic chronic pachymeningitis (IHCP) is a rare disorder characterized by chronic inflammation of the dura mater that there can be associated with resulting neurological deficits from the compression of underlying structures. The etiology of the pathologic process is uncertain and for its diagnosis it is necessary to rule out infectious pathology, diseases of the immune system and other processes, together with the pathological confirmation of the existence of a steril and chronic inflammatory infiltrate of the dura mater, and without evidence of vasculitic sings or malignancy. The IHCP is an infrequent entity.

Contribution of a new case of inverted papilloma (IP) of the upper urinary tract (UUT) with the idiosyncrasy of being bilateral and synchronic, a fact not found in the reviewed literature, treated with radical surgery on the left side and conservatively on the right one. Discussion on this pathology is addressed, emphasising its benign biological behaviour, which does not eliminate some cases of malignization. Treatment has to be conservative, and so we stress the relevance of defining a suspicion state to make pre- and peri- operative diagnosis in which endourological methods, that allow both direct visualization and the taking of a biopsy, play a preeminent role.
