This article reports the trends in BMI score (-BMI) and their correlation with insulin dose and A1C in children with new-onset type 1 diabetes from several Latin American centers. The researchers observed a significant increase in the -BMI from type 1 diabetes onset through the 3-year follow-up, with insulin dose as a significant covariate. Although insulin doses steadily increased, their impact on A1C did not appear to be optimal (mean A1C 8.

Objective: To compare the costs of care and the opportunity of care for the management of grade I-II ankle sprain in two Family Medicine Units, one with rehabilitation service (FMU 13) and one without rehabilitation service (FMU 41).
Method: Observational analytical study, records with diagnosis of grade I-II ankle sprain attended at the FMU were included January-November 2021. Consultations were recorded in the emergency department, family medicine, rehabilitation, cabinet studies and time to grant the appointment in the rehabilitation service (opportunity of care), the Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare costs of care and timeliness of care.

Background: Factors associated with severe COVID-19 infection have been identified; however, the impact of infection on longer-term outcomes is unclear. The objective of this study was to examine the impact of COVID-19 infection on the trajectory of lung function and nutritional status in people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF).
Methods: This is a retrospective global cohort study of pwCF who had confirmed COVID-19 infection diagnosed between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2021.

Introduction: Cushing's syndrome (CS) constitutes one of the most challenging diagnostic assessments for paediatric endocrinologists. The clinical presentation of some children with exogenous obesity overlaps with those observed in hypercortisolism states. Accurate, non-invasive first-line tests are necessary to avoid false-positive results in the obese.

Background: Pompe disease (PD) is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder (1 in 14,000) which affects the synthesis of acid alpha-glucosidase (AGA), leading to intralysosomal glycogen accumulation in muscle tissue. The clinical presentation is heterogeneous, with variable degrees of involvement and progression, classifiable based on the age of onset into infantile (classic or non-classic) and late-onset forms (juvenile or adult). The diagnostic test of choice is the enzymatic analysis of AGA, and the only pharmacological treatment is enzyme replacement therapy (ERT).

Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE) has become an invaluable tool for tracking the evolution of use or exposure of/to numerous substances. Bisphenols, commonly utilized in manufacturing plastic goods, have been categorized as endocrine disrupting chemicals, underscoring the critical need for real-time data on their local-level exposure to safeguard public health. In this study, we have developed a novel analytical method and WBE framework for the assessment of population-level exposure to bisphenol A (BPA) and its most prominent substitutes, bisphenols F and S (BPF and BPS), through the determination their Phase II metabolites in wastewater by WBE.

Dear Editor, We have read the article "The usefulness of the genetic panel in the classification and refinement of diagnostic accuracy of Mexican patients with Marfan syndrome and other connective tissue disorders", recently published in your esteemed journal. We are a team dedicated to diagnosing, approaching, and managing patients with connective tissue disorders, particularly hypermobile spectrum disorders (HSD) and Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS). We appreciate the research group's effort to address the complexity of connective tissue disorders using a multi-panel genetic approach and their analysis of genotype-phenotype associations in a cohort of Mexican patients.

Oxytocin administration has demonstrated considerable promise for providing individualized support for autistic people. However, studies evaluating the effects of oxytocin administration on autistic characteristics have yielded inconsistent results. This systematic review and meta-analysis investigates the effect of oxytocin administration on social and routinized behaviors in autism using recently developed methods to accurately assess the potential impact of effect size dependency and publication bias.

The N141I variant (PSEN1 gene) is associated with familial forms of early-onset Alzheimer's disease (AD) in descendants of Volga Germans, whose migration to Argentina is well documented. As a proxy for geographic origin, surnames can be a valuable tool in population studies. The 2015 Argentine Electoral Registry provided geographic data for 30,530,194 individuals, including 326,922 with Volga German surnames.

Objective: To describe the patterns of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) occurrence in children newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) across several Latin American pediatric diabetes centers from 2018 to 2022.
Methods: A retrospective chart review included children under 18 with new-onset T1DM from 30 Latin American pediatric diabetes centers (Argentina, Chile, and Peru) between 30 December 2018 and 30 December 2022. Multiple logistic regression models examined the relationships between age, gender, medical insurance, BMI, and DKA at new-onset T1DM.

Humans display substantial interindividual clinical variability after SARS-CoV-2 infection, the genetic and immunological basis of which has begun to be deciphered. However, the extent and drivers of population differences in immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 remain unclear. Here we report single-cell RNA-sequencing data for peripheral blood mononuclear cells-from 222 healthy donors of diverse ancestries-that were stimulated with SARS-CoV-2 or influenza A virus.

Acute pancreatitis (AP) and recurrent acute pancreatitis (RAP) are conditions, whose incidence is apparently on the rise. Despite the ever-increasing evidence regarding the management of AP in children and adults, therapeutic actions that could potentially affect having a poor prognosis in those patients, especially in the pediatric population, continue to be carried out. Therefore, the Asociación Mexicana de Gastroenterología convened a group of 24 expert pediatric gastroenterologists from different institutions and areas of Mexico, as well as 2 pediatric nutritionists and 2 specialists in pediatric surgery, to discuss different aspects of the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of AP and RAP in the pediatric population.

Coronavirus (CoV) infections cause respiratory and enteric diseases with clinical manifestations ranging from faint to severe, even lead to death of patients. High connectivity between nations and infectivity of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), represent a global health problem as the coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19). This CoV-2 that cause SARS, which appeared in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 originated COVID-19 and declared as pandemic a few months posterior its appearance.
