This article reports the trends in BMI score (-BMI) and their correlation with insulin dose and A1C in children with new-onset type 1 diabetes from several Latin American centers. The researchers observed a significant increase in the -BMI from type 1 diabetes onset through the 3-year follow-up, with insulin dose as a significant covariate. Although insulin doses steadily increased, their impact on A1C did not appear to be optimal (mean A1C 8.

Objective: To describe the patterns of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) occurrence in children newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) across several Latin American pediatric diabetes centers from 2018 to 2022.

Methods: A retrospective chart review included children under 18 with new-onset T1DM from 30 Latin American pediatric diabetes centers (Argentina, Chile, and Peru) between 30 December 2018 and 30 December 2022. Multiple logistic regression models examined the relationships between age, gender, medical insurance, BMI, and DKA at new-onset T1DM.

In 2015, the "New recommendations regarding the current controversies in urinary infection" were published in the Archivos Argentinos de Pediatría. Given the fact that in these past years, new evidence has emerged regarding the diagnosis and treatment of urinary infection, the Pediatric Nephrology Committee of Sociedad Argentina de Pediatría has decided to update these recommendations. The main goal is to provide the pediatrician with the necessary tools to make a correct diagnosis, define the most appropriate treatment, select the patients who will benefit from antibiotic prophylaxis, and decide which imaging studies will be necessary, avoiding costly and invasive interventions.

Purpose: The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate efficacy and tolerability of sulthiame (STM) as add-on treatment in 35 patients with myoclonic atonic epilepsy (MAE) resistant to other antiseizure medications (ASMs) and/or non-pharmacological treatment.

Methods: Patients were selected according to the diagnostic definition of MAE and were resistant to at least four previous to ASM, alone or in combination. Neurologic examinations, brain magnetic resonance imaging, and repeated prolonged electroencephalography (EEG) or video-EEG studies as well as neurometabolic studies were performed in all cases.

Portal hypertension is a complex syndrome caused by increased resistance to the splachnic venous flow at the portal vein level, with a hyperdynamic systemic circulation characterized by peripheral vasodilation and high cardiac output. Portal flow can be obstructed at prehepatic (¨normal liver¨), intrahepatic (as in cirrhosis), or post-hepatic level (as in Budd-Chiari syndrome). In pediatric patients, prehepatic and intrahepatic causes are almost equally distributed (nearly 50% each).

Purpose: The state of limited resource settings that Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has created globally should be taken seriously into account especially in healthcare sector. In oncofertility, patients should receive their fertility preservation treatments urgently even in limited resource settings before initiation of anticancer therapy. Therefore, it is very crucial to learn more about oncofertility practice in limited resource settings such as in developing countries that suffer often from shortage of healthcare services provided to young patients with cancer.

A female patient with electroclinical and neuroradiological features compatible with Rasmussen syndrome developed a particular clinical and EEG pattern. As the seizures were refractory to valproate at 750 mg/kg/day, oxcarbazepine (OXC) at 30 mg/kg/day was added. Seizures became more frequent and on neurological examination, no hemiparesis was detected.
