Heart transplantation (HT) is the gold standard therapy for advanced heart failure (ADHF), and LVADs as destination therapy are an option in non-HT candidates. Most patients with ADHF never receive HT or an LVAD, so alternative strategies are needed. Intermittent levosimendan can reduce HF hospitalizations in ADHF patients in the short term.

Objectives: GALIPEMIAS is a study designed to establish the prevalence of familial dyslipidemia in the general population of Galicia. The objective of the present study was to assess the prevalence of atherogenic dyslipidemia (AD), its relationship with other cardiovascular risk (CVR) factors, and the degree of lipid control.

Methods: Cross-sectional study carried out in the general population over 18 years of age residing in Galicia and with a health card from the Galician Health Service (N=1,000).

Aim: Patients with advanced heart failure (AHF) who are not candidates to advanced therapies have poor prognosis. In this real-life registry, we describe the patterns of use, safety and factors related to the response to intermittent levosimendan infusions in AHF patients not candidates to advanced therapies.

Background: There is limited evidence on the effectiveness of biological therapy in stricturing complications in patients with Crohn's disease.

Aim: The study aims to determine the effectiveness of anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) agents in Crohn's disease complicated with symptomatic strictures.

Methods: In this multicentric and retrospective study, we included adult patients with symptomatic stricturing Crohn's disease receiving their first anti-TNF therapy, with no previous history of biological, endoscopic or surgical therapy.

Subcutaneous bortezomib in newly diagnosed patients with multiple myeloma nontransplant eligible: Retrospective evaluation.

Bortezomib-melphalan-prednisone combination is one of the standards of care for nontransplant eligible patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma. However, bortezomib intravenous (twice weekly for 4 cycles then weekly for 5 cycles) results in ~13% of patients with grade 3-4 peripheral neuropathy. Bortezomib subcutaneous (SQ) and weekly delivery, improves tolerability without impairment of efficacy.

Degree of control of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in Spain: SINCON study.

Background: Disease control is an important objective of COPD management. The SINCON study evaluated the level of control in terms of respiratory symptoms and exacerbations in Spanish patients with COPD for ≥2 years.

Methods: SINCON was a descriptive, cross-sectional, multicenter study that assessed degree of control using a combined index comprising COPD assessment test (CAT), modified Medical Research Council dyspnea scale (mMRC), and number of moderate/severe exacerbations in the last year.

Impact of sorafenib dosing on outcome from the European patient subset of the GIDEON study.

Aims: To evaluate sorafenib dosing and safety in the Global Investigation of therapeutic GIDEON study's European subpopulation.

Patients & Methods: Patient demographics, disease characteristics and treatment history were recorded at enrollment; dose, adverse events and efficacy were recorded at follow-up.

Results: Of 1113 evaluable patients, 82% started on 800 mg/day sorafenib; patients starting on 400 mg/day were slightly older, had baseline characteristics indicative of greater disease progression and higher adverse events incidences (96 vs 88%).

This destruction takes place in a generally slow manner, causing symptoms to appear in an insidious way, added to the fact that these symptoms tend to be unspecific. Therefore it is easy to understand that its diagnosis at an early stage will be very difficult and is often interpreted as another disease.
