Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common male malignancy in our population. Over the past two decades, the prostate specific antigen (PSA) has been widely used for screening, diagnosis and monitoring of prostate cancer. Routine use of PSA has been continuing subject to controversy due to its limited specificity, which is derived from the fact that serum PSA levels are produced in a variety of non-neoplastic conditions.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the survival effects of inferior vena cava filters in patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE) who had a significant bleeding risk.
Background: The effectiveness of inferior vena cava filter use among patients with acute symptomatic VTE and known significant bleeding risk remains unclear.
Methods: In this prospective cohort study of patients with acute VTE identified from the RIETE (Computerized Registry of Patients With Venous Thromboembolism), we assessed the association between inferior vena cava filter insertion for known significant bleeding risk and the outcomes of all-cause mortality, pulmonary embolism (PE)-related mortality, and VTE rates through 30 days after the initiation of VTE treatment.

Introduction: To validate the use of supine position and CT images for assessing abdominal circumference (AC).
Method: A prospective study in consecutive patients undergoing scheduled abdominal CT at our center between 17 and 25 September 2012. AC was measured four times: Measurements 1 and 2 were sequentially done by the same trained nurse before abdominal CT just above the iliac crest, while measurements 3 and 4 were done on the last abdominal CT slice not showing the iliac bone.

Obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is a prevalent disease in the general population, associated with an increase in the cardiovascular morbimortality. A basic and/or standardized otolaryngologic exploration could help us to detect the structural abnormalities that alter the upper airway collapsibility and offer a high pre-test risk factor, improve the CPAP adherence or even the possibility of offering alternative treatments. This article offers a revision of the exploration in OSAHS patients.

Purpose Of Review: Although developing countries have made much progress in expanding the availability and use of family planning services, the need for effective contraception is large, and growing because the largest cohorts in human history are entering their reproductive years. Not only regarding developing countries but also in developed countries, where the usual contraceptive methods, such as the oral contraceptives, intrauterine devices (IUDs) and condoms, have been available for decades, there have been many new advances in contraceptive technology in the last several years. New formulations of oral contraceptives, extended and continuous use of oral contraceptives and long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC) may have a wider role in contraception and their increased implementation could help to reduce unintended pregnancy.

Background And Objective: Scleroderma renal crisis is a severe complication of systemic sclerosis, which causes arterial hypertension and acute renal failure. Early treatment of these patients with ACE inhibitors may improve prognosis. We aimed to analyze the frequency, clinical and epidemiological characteristics, morbidity and mortality and prognosis of scleroderma renal crisis.

Osteoporotic hip fractures are common in our setting. Poor bone quality favors complications of the osteosynthesis procedures used to treat these patients. Lag-screw cut-out through the femoral head is not uncommon (2%), but pull-out of side plate screws is very unusual.

Cephalic arch stenosis (CAS) is a unique type of vascular access stenosis. For example, the etiology of CAS is under investigation and the prevalence of CAS can be lower in diabetic patients. Three cases of CAS were identified during our vascular access stenosis surveillance program by blood flow rate measurements using the Delta-H method.

The author studies the profile and general characteristics of patients who suffer whatever type of accidental or voluntary drug intoxication by someone who makes use of the Mollet Hospital Emergency Ward. The author verifies the need for distinct types of nursing care, including techniques, procedures and how to administer treatment, to patients who suffer from drug intoxication, either accidental or voluntary The author also tries to discover the work load for nursing personnel which this type of patient brings to bear on an emergency service by means of the "PRN" method.

Purpose: Review a large experience in the placement of tunnelled catheters to assess the outcomes with twin catheter system as hemodialysis access.
Material And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed clinical and hemodialysis data regarding of ESRD patients who were referred from 2 dialysis facilities for placement of tunnelled catheters hemodialysis access between 1996 March and 2005 July. For catheter insertion a real-time sonography technique was used (Site Rite II Dymax corporation) in performing vascular access procedure.
Introduction: The color Doppler ultrasonography (CDU) is a noninvasive vascular access (VA) monitoring technique that provides both structural and hemodynamic information from VA. On the other hand, the delta-H (AH) method is another noninvasive technique that measures the VA blood flow rate during hemodialysis (HD).
Objective: 1) To analyze some anatomic and functional parameters of VA by CDU.

Ischemic hepatitis is characterized by a marked and reversible elevation in either the serum alanine or aspartate aminotransferase level in a appropriate clinical setting that could lead to a reduction in hepatic blood flow, mainly in patients with heart failure. To establish the diagnosis other causes of hepatitis, such as virus and drugs, must be previously excluded. Centrilobular necrosis is the main histologic feature.

A 70-year-old woman, who undergoing hemodialysis due to chronic pyelonephritis, is reported. She suffered from dyspnea due to pulmonary artery hypertension secondary to volume overload as a complication of high-flow brachial AVF. The combined estimation of vascular access blood flow rate (QA) and systolic pulmonary artery pressure by noninvasive methods (ultrafiltration and Doppler echocardiography, respectively) allowed us the diagnosis, make a surgical indication and post-surgical follow-up of AVF with hemodynamic repercussion.
