Background And Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of intradialytic parenteral nutrition (IDPN) on different nutritional outcomes.
Methods: This was a retrospective analysis for a "routinely collected data bank" in a multicenter cohort, conducted on consecutive malnourished or at-risk of malnutrition patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis who underwent IDPN with a three-in-one parenteral nutrition formula for a period ≥ 2 weeks. The primary endpoint was the mean change in the malnutrition inflammation score (MIS) score between baseline and the last follow-up visit on IDPN.

The KATITA-25 (Kidney AlloTransplant Immunosuppressive Therapy Adherence) Questionnaire is a multidimensional self-administered scale developed in Brazilian Portuguese that measures the predisposition for non-adherence to immunosuppressive medication in candidate patients for kidney transplantation, in the pre-transplant setting. The aim of this study was the cross-cultural validation of the Spanish version of the KATITA-25 scale. The translation/back-translation method was used, followed by cognitive interviews and a pre-test.

A prospective multicentre study was carried out between 2017 and 2021 to assess (1) the appropriateness of the empirical treatment to the local guidelines of urinary source Escherichia coli bacteraemia, (2) the appropriateness of empirical treatment to antibiotic sensitivity results and (3) the degree of error in the local guidelines regarding the antibiotic sensitivity reported in acute care hospitals enrolled in the vigilància de les infeccions relacionades amb l'atenció sanitària de Catalunya program. During the study period, 79.0% of the empirical treatments analysed complied with the guidelines and 88.

Background: Hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) is characterized by the presence of telangiectases and larger arteriovenous malformations in different organs. Mucocutaneous telangiectases can bleed and become an aesthetic concern, impairing quality of life (QoL). However, the best treatment approach has not been defined yet.

Introduction: While haemorrhoidal dearterialization and mucopexy are accepted as a valid alternative to haemorrhoidectomy, differences exist regarding the fixed or variable location of the arteries to be ligated. Our aim was to shed light on this issue of arterial distribution in candidates for surgery.
Methods: The study included consecutive patients diagnosed with Goligher grade III and IV haemorrhoids, who had undergone Doppler-guided haemorrhoidal artery ligation (DG-HAL) and rectoanal repair (RAR) at 2 medical centres in Spain.

Background: Febrile urinary tract infections (fUTI) in men are frequently complicated with subclinical prostatic involvement, measured by a transient increase in serum prostate-specific-antigen (sPSA). The aim of this study was to evaluate recurrence rates in a 6-month follow-up period of 2-week versus 4-week antibiotic treatment in men with fUTI, based on prostatic involvement. Clinical and microbiological cure rates at the end-of-therapy (EoT) were also assessed.

Purpose: To describe the transition process from open repair (OR) to laparoscopic repair (LR) of bilateral inguinal hernia in a small basic general hospital METHODS: We describe the technical details and training strategy used to facilitate the transition to systematic LR of bilateral inguinal hernia. We conducted a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data from all patients undergoing bilateral inguinal hernia repair between January 2017 and December 2020. We analysed the evolution of LR and compared the surgical outcomes: complications, acute pain (24 h), chronic pain (> 3 months), and recurrence (1 year) of the patients operated on by OR and LR.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Vaginal packing is often used after vaginal hysterectomy to reduce the risk of haemorrhagic and infectious complications, but the procedure may impair spontaneous bladder emptying and necessitate permanent bladder catheterization, which itself increases the risk of urinary infection, patient bother, delayed discharge, and increased costs. This systematic review was aimed at assessing the complications and outcomes associated with vaginal packing after vaginal hysterectomy.
Methods: We conducted a systematic review following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) Statement, using the Population, Interventions, Comparators, Outcomes, and Study design (PICOS) framework to define eligibility.

Aim: Patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) are at increased risk of cancer, a growing cause of non-SSc-related death among these patients. We analyzed the increased cancer risk among Spanish patients with SSc using standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) and identified independent cancer risk factors in this population.
Material And Methods: Spanish Scleroderma Registry data were analyzed to determine the demographic characteristics of patients with SSc, and logistic regression was used to identify cancer risk factors.

Introduction: IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common primary glomerulonephritis (GN) worldwide. The disease course fluctuates, and the most important challenge is the considerable variation in the time lag between diagnosis and the development of a hard clinical end point, such as end-stage kidney disease (ESKD). The reaction of renal tissue to damage resembles the common wound-healing response.

We investigated changes in symptoms and quality of life (QoL) in men with moderate-to-severe lower urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (LUTS/BPH) receiving the hexanic extract of (HESr) and compared results with a matched group on watchful waiting (WW). Data was from a real-world, open-label, prospective, multicenter study. This sub-group analysis included patients with moderate-to-severe symptoms receiving either the HESr 320 mg/daily for six months (HESr) or who remained untreated for LUTS/BPH (WW).

Background: Neoadjuvant treatment (NT) with chemotherapy (Ch) is a standard option for resectable stage III (N2) NSCLC. Several studies have suggested benefits with the addition of radiotherapy (RT) to NT Ch. The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) published recommendations for the pathological response (PHR) of NSCLC resection specimens after NT.

Background: The arteriovenous (AV) access function of hemodialysis (HD) patients can be impaired by afferent artery stiffness due to preexisting microcalcification and by venous stenosis secondary to neointimal hyperplasia in whose development participates an upregulated local inflammatory process. Fetuin-A is a circulating potent inhibitor of vascular calcification and plays an important anti-inflammatory role. The aims of this prospective study were to investigate the relationship between baseline serum fetuin-A levels and: blood flow (Q) values at baseline, AV access failure (thrombosis or intervention for stenosis) during follow-up and primary unassisted AV access patency.

Coagulopathy is a key feature of COVID-19 and D-dimer has been reported as a predictor of severity. However, because D-dimer test results vary considerably among assays, resolving harmonization issues is fundamental to translate findings into clinical practice. In this retrospective multicenter study (BIOCOVID study), we aimed to analyze the value of harmonized D-dimer levels upon admission for the prediction of in-hospital mortality in COVID-19 patients.

Purpose: It has been suggested, on a theoretical basis, that ultrasound screening of thyroid nodules in obese patients with additional risk factors (family history, chronic autoimmune thyroiditis or high thyrotropin) might be cost-effective for the early detection and treatment of thyroid cancer. The present study evaluates if this approach can be validated in a real clinical setting.
Methods: Patients with obesity who attended hospital-based clinics were evaluated for risk factors of thyroid cancer and ultrasound screened for thyroid nodularity.
