Stereotactic biopsies are essential for obtaining accurate histopathological analysis to guide treatment decisions for deep-seated brain lesions. Manually guided methods, while commonly used and highly precise, can be limited by potential inaccuracies and insufficient tissue sampling. The emerging robot-assisted (RA) techniques offer enhanced precision and could address these limitations for improved accuracy.

This study aimed to characterize strains isolated from hospitalized patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. This was achieved using phenotypic and molecular techniques, including their antimicrobial resistance profile and biofilm formation. Eighteen strains were isolated from a hospital in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and identified by VITEK2, MALDI-TOF/MS (VITEK MS and MALDI Biotyper), and 16S rRNA sequencing.

Radioinduced cavernous malformations (RICMs) are low-flow, angiographically occult vascular lesions. Giant radioinduced cavernous malformations (GRICMs) are a subtype of RICMs that are characterized by their large size. GRICMs are defined as RICMs that are larger than 3 cm in diameter.

Prostate-specific membrane antigen PET (PSMA-PET) has emerged as a powerful imaging tool for prostate cancer primary staging, biochemical recurrence, and advanced disease assessment. This article offers a concise overview of the benefits and challenges associated with PSMA-PET for prostate cancer evaluation. The article highlights the advantages of PSMA-PET over conventional imaging, such as its higher sensitivity and specificity for detecting metastases, and the potential for guiding personalized treatment decisions.

Background: Previous authors have utilized gait kinematics to categorize knee osteoarthritis patients into four distinct profiles: (1) flexed knee; (2) externally rotated knee; (3) stiff knee; and (4) knee varus thrust and rotational rigidity. However, the relationship between these gait profiles and patients' characteristics remains poorly understood. Thus, this study aimed to investigate whether differences in clinical and radiographic characteristics were associated with these four gait profiles.

Aim: To evaluate the association between global cerebral edema (GCE) after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and its impact on functional outcome evaluated by the modified Rankin scale (mRS).
Material And Methods: This is a prospective cohort study with patients who were admitted to the hospital due to SAH. During the period from January 2018 to November 2019, 107 patients with intracranial aneurysms were enrolled.

Liver transplantation has come a long way and is now regarded as the gold standard treatment for end-stage liver failure. The great majority of livers utilized in transplantation come from brain-dead donors. A broad inflammatory response characterizes BD, resulting in multiorgan damage.

Carotid artery lesions are frequently composed of friable, thrombotic, ulcerated and/or hemorrhagic materials which can embolize during surgical or endovascular interventions. The use of embolic protection devices (EPD) during carotid angioplasty and stenting (CAS) has been proven to be associated with a reduction of the embolic load. Many studies indicate that the clinical results of CAS are comparable with the best surgical series, when EPD are routinely applied.

Introduction: Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) is related to cardiometabolic risk. Estimating it using the visceral adiposity index (VAI) could identify this risk in the Brazilian Air Force (BAF) aviator population. The aim here is to verify the predictive capacity of the VAI for identifying visceral fat areas compared to traditional obesity indicators in BAF pilots.

Brain abscesses are rare and severe infections with high mortality, corresponding to neurosurgical emergencies. 12% of all abscesses are caused by odontogenic etiologies, either an infectious process or a dental procedure. This paper describes a case of a patient who underwent tooth extraction, presenting days later with hydrocephalus and intracranial hypertension due to a brain abscess, whose isolated pathogen is the same identified in the oral cavity.

Background: The movement of the arm relative to the trunk results from 3-dimensional (3D) coordinated movements of the glenohumeral (GH) and scapulothoracic (ST) joints and dictates the scapulohumeral rhythm (SHR). Alterations in SHR increase joint overload and may lead to low functional scores, pain, and failures in patients undergoing reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RSA). The goal of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to examine 3D SHR kinematics after RSA and compare it to that of asymptomatic shoulders.

Background: Ependymoma is a slowly growing benign neoplasm that constitutes 3-9% of all neuroepithelial spinal cord tumors.[3,4] They rarely involve the cervicomedullary junction where they both compress the distal brainstem and upper cervical cord. Due to the critical contiguous structures, gross total resection of these lesions may result in significant morbidity/mortality.

Background: Intracranial aneurysms are acquired abnormal vascular dilations. The most dangerous complication of a cerebral aneurysm is its rupture, with a high rate of mortality. This study aimed to determine whether there is an association between anatomic variations in the circle of Willis and ruptured aneurysms in the anterior and posterior communicating arteries.

Purpose: This study aims to present a novel classification system and a rationale for treatment of medial Hoffa fractures.
Methods: We developed a simple comprehensive classification system for medial Hoffa fractures based on the fragment size and presence of fracture comminution. Furthermore, we propose a treatment algorithm based on two pillars: our case series of nine patients presenting medial Hoffa fractures and the best evidence-based pertinent literature.
