Background And Objectives: cardiovascular changes during pregnancy carry greater risk in heart disease. We analyze cardiovascular, obstetric and perinatal adverse effects associated with congenital and acquired heart disease during pregnancy and postpartum.

Materials And Methods: Cross-sectional and retrospective study, which included the 2017-2023 registry of pregnant or postpartum patients hospitalised with diagnosis of congenital or acquired heart disease.

Breast Cancer Tissue Explants: An Approach to Develop Personalized Therapy in Public Health Services.

Breast cancer is one of the main causes of death worldwide. Lately, there is great interest in developing methods that assess individual sensitivity and/or resistance of tumors to antineoplastics to provide personalized therapy for patients. In this study we used organotypic culture of human breast tumor slices to predict the experimental effect of antineoplastics on the viability of tumoral tissue.

Procalcitonin and C-reactive protein: markers in the early diagnosis of anastomotic leak.

Objective: To determine the efficacy of serum procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in the early diagnosis of anastomotic leak (AL) in patients undergoing colorectal surgery.

Method: Diagnostic test in a tertiary care hospital. Patients who did not have preoperative measurements of PCT and CRP were excluded.

[Hipersensibility to red tattoo ink, review of a case].

Introduction: The hypersensitivity reaction associated with tattoo ink and its management represent a growing challenge, despite having precedents in diagnostic and treatment experience in other reports or case series in recent decades, no one has been found homogeneous offer that is effective and safe. Therefore, a review is presented with what has been described in pathophysiological theories, as well as therapeutic proposals and the response found in related cases that have been reported to date.

Clinical Case: 30-year-old male, with dermatosis located on the right upper extremity, affecting the inner side of the forearm and the outer side of the arm, unilateral, asymmetric, monomorphic in appearance, made up of an artificial macula, caused by red ink (tattoo), with development of papular-like lesions in original trace, pruritic, referred evolution time of one month.

Identification of variants in genes associated with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in Mexican patients.

The objective of this work was to identify genetic variants in Mexican patients diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). According to world literature, the genes mainly involved are MHY7 and MYBPC3, although variants have been found in more than 50 genes related to heart disease and sudden death, and to our knowledge there are no studies in the Mexican population. These variants are reported and classified in the ClinVar (PubMed) database and only some of them are recognized in the Online Mendelian Information in Men (OMIM).

Post-traumatic Stress Symptoms, Distress, and Optimism in Mexican Colorectal Cancer Patients.

Background: The diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer are considered highly stressful and potentially traumatic events that can generate post-traumatic stress symptoms and distress among patients.

Objective: This study assessed levels of post-traumatic stress symptoms, distress, and optimism, as well as differences between these conditions relative to sociodemographic and medical variables, in Mexican patients with colorectal cancer.

Design: A cross-sectional descriptive study design was employed, in which 192 colorectal cancer patients over the age of 18 years participated.

Background: Variants of 8q24 locus have been associated with prostate cancer (PCa) susceptibility. This study aims to analyze the genetic basis of PCa susceptibility in Mexican men by analyzing SNPs in the 8q24 locus for the first time.

Methods: A case-control study was performed in 875 men recruited from the Mexican Social Security Institute, 326 patients with PCa, and 549 non-PCa patients (88 with benign prostatic hyperplasia BPH and 461 healthy controls).

[Osteoclast-Like giant cell bladder carcinoma: Case report].

Background: Osteoclast-like giant cell bladder carcinomas are an extremely unusual and aggressive histological subtype of urothelial carcinomas. Only 30 cases are reported in the international literature.

Clinical Case: A 79-year-old male patient attended our Urology department for a six-month history of macroscopic hematuria.

Quality of life in Mexican colorectal cancer patients: analysis with sociodemographic, medical, and psychological variables.

In this study, we evaluated the influence of sex, age, clinical stage, and colostomy/ileostomy variables on the quality of life of Mexican patients with colorectal cancer. Using a descriptive cross-sectional design, 192 colorectal cancer patients were included in the study. Significant differences were observed in emotional functioning between patients with rectal cancer and those with colon cancer.

Cognitive Behavioral Stress Management intervention in Mexican colorectal cancer patients: Pilot study.

Objective: Determine the feasibility and the preliminary effects of brief cognitive behavioral stress management (CBSM) intervention, compared with psychoeducation (PE) group in posttraumatic stress, distress, optimism, and quality of life in patients with colorectal cancer.

Methods: Ninety-four patients were randomized: 40 in CBSM intervention and 54 in PE. They answered psychological questionnaires before and after the intervention and 3 months later for follow-up.

Clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus by the Mexican College of Rheumatology.

There are national and international clinical practice guidelines for systemic lupus erythematosus treatment. Nonetheless, most of them are not designed for the Mexican population or are devoted only to the treatment of certain disease manifestations, like lupus nephritis, or are designed for some physiological state like pregnancy. The Mexican College of Rheumatology aimed to create clinical practice guidelines that included the majority of the manifestations of systemic lupus erythematosus, and also incorporated guidelines in controversial situations like vaccination and the perioperative period.

[Usefulness of Doppler ultrasound-obtained resistance index in thyroid nodules with ultrasonographic malignant characteristics].

Introduction: Thyroid nodular disease is highly prevalent in the general population. Its diagnosis has increased with Doppler ultrasound, by means of which features suggestive of malignancy can be detected, such as resistance and pulsatility indices elevation.

Objective: To assess the correlation of a high resistance index and histopathological findings in patients with ultrasonographic suspicion of malignant thyroid nodules.

Method: Pediatrics staff and resident physicians anonymously answered the Attitudes Towards Death (ATD) questionnaire.

Delayed diagnosis in X-linked agammaglobulinemia and its relationship to the occurrence of mutations in BTK non-kinase domains.

Background: X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA) is characterized by the absence of immunoglobulin and B cells. Patients suffer from recurrent bacterial infections from early childhood, and require lifelong immunoglobulin replacement therapy. Mutations in BTK (Bruton's Tyrosine Kinase) are associated with this phenotype.

Microsurgical reconstruction in limb salvage due to a giant cell tumor of the distal radius. Case report.

The giant cell tumor of bone is one of the most controversial neoplasms due to growth patterns that may present. The case reported shows a very aggressive tumor in a classic location, but key to hand function. Rather than treat with radical surgery, was planned and performed a wide resection with an ulnar-carpus arthrodesis and microsurgical reconstruction of the defect throught an anterolateral thigh flap.

Mutations in ATP6V1B1 and ATP6V0A4 genes cause recessive distal renal tubular acidosis in Mexican families.

Background: Autosomal recessive distal renal tubular acidosis (dRTA) is a rare disease characterized by a hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis with normal anion gap, hypokalemia, hypercalciuria, hypocitraturia, nephrocalcinosis, and conserved glomerular filtration rate. In some cases, neurosensorial deafness is associated. dRTA is developed during the first months of life and the main manifestations are failure to thrive, vomiting, dehydration, and anorexia.

[Complications in patients undergoing ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrostomy and associated factors].

Introduction: For the treatment of obstructive hydronephrosis that compromises renal function, procedures are required to decrease pressure such as intrarenal ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrostomy, which leads to complications like any procedure. General objective: To determine the complications of patients undergoing ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrostomy and factors associated with their development.

Material And Methods: Cross-analytical, observational, retrospective study that included patients undergoing ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrostomy in UMAE 25 IMSS, from 1 March, 2013 to 1 March, 2014.

Clinical and mutational features of X-linked agammaglobulinemia in Mexico.

X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA) is caused by BTK mutations, patients typically show <2% of peripheral B cells and reduced levels of all immunoglobulins; they suffer from recurrent infections of bacterial origin; however, viral infections, autoimmune-like diseases, and an increased risk of developing gastric cancer are also reported. In this work, we report the BTK mutations and clinical features of 12 patients diagnosed with XLA. Furthermore, a clinical revision is also presented for an additional cohort of previously reported patients with XLA.

[Evolution of pediatric patients with liver transplantation in a tertiary care hospital in northeast country].

Introduction: Liver transplantation is indicated for the treatment of pediatric patients with progressive liver disease in which an expected survival of less than a year would be achieved with the transplant. The aim of this study was to determine the evolution of pediatric liver transplant patients in a tertiary care hospital in the northeast country.

Results: Twelve patients subjected to liver transplantation included nine females and three males; one case required retransplantation.

[Correlation between subjective global assessment and anthropometric and biochemical values in patients with parenteral nutrition].

Background: The prevalence of malnutrition in hospitalized patients is high and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. At present there is no method of nutritional assessment considered of choice to identify nutritional risk.

[Clinical and immunological characteristics in pediatric patients with coccidioidomycosis in northeastern Mexico].

Background: Coccidioidomycosis is a systemic fungal disease caused by Coccidioides spp. Patients with phagocytic, cellular, or humoral immunodeficiencies exhibit immunodeficiencies that confer increased susceptibility to fungal infections. In Mexico there is an underreporting of this disease and no studies currently describe the immune status of these patients in an endemic area.
