Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the characteristics and effects of the time taken to diagnose systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in a Latin American cohort, noting that diagnosis can often be delayed and that SLE may resemble other diseases.
  • - Patients with longer diagnosis times (over 6 months) were often older, female, of Mestizo descent, uninsured, and displayed atypical symptoms, but this delayed diagnosis did not seem to affect their disease progression or mortality rates significantly.
  • - Overall, the research concludes that within this cohort, waiting up to 24 months for an SLE diagnosis, with a median of 6 months, did not lead to worse health outcomes.

We present the case of a 5-month-old male, who began his condition at one month-old with constipation and increase of the abdominal circumference, imaging studies revealed an abdominal lesion, he was treated with chemotherapy and surgery.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) are considered risk factors for the development and the clinical prognosis of LSCC. High levels of p16 are suggested as a surrogate marker of HPV or EBV infection in some head and neck tumors but in LSCC is still controversial.

Introduction: Group B Streptococcus (GBS) causes infections in women during pregnancy and puerperium and invasive infections in newborns. The genes lmb, cylE, scpB, and hvgA are involved with increased virulence of GBS, and hypervirulent clones have been identified in different regions. In addition, increasing resistance of GBS to macrolides and lincosamides has been reported, so knowing the patterns of antibiotic resistance may be necessary to prevent and treat GBS infections.

Background Zika, dengue and chikungunya viruses (ZIKV, CHIKV and DENV) are temporally associated with neurological diseases, such as Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). Because these three arboviruses coexist in Mexico, the frequency and severity of GBS could theoretically increase. This study aims to determine the association between these arboviruses and GBS in a Mexican population and to establish the clinical characteristics of the patients, including the severity of the infection.
