Background: Disturbances in the gut microbiota may act as mechanisms influencing the interplay between dietary factors and metabolic disorders. Studies have demonstrated that these alterations are associated with the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Within this context, we aimed to investigate associations between gut microbiota, gut-derived metabolites (short-chain fatty acids [SCFAs] and indole-3-propionic acid [IPA]), and dietary intake in women with PCOS.

Clinical and lifestyle predictors of loneliness: A two-year longitudinal study.

Background: While loneliness is a global public health problem, the literature lacks studies assessing loneliness predictors in low- and middle-income countries. Therefore, we aimed to analyze clinical and lifestyle predictors of loneliness.

Methods: We conducted a 2-year longitudinal study in Brazil based on a snowball sample and online surveys (baseline: May 6 to June 6, 2020).

Fabry disease (FD) is an X-linked recessive lysosomal storage disorder, characterized by a deficiency of α-galactosidase, which causes the progressive accumulation of glycosphingolipids, especially globotriaosylsphingosine (Gb3), in lysosomes across multiple organs. Substrate deposition, associated with tissue damage in FD, also contributes to the emergence of a pro-inflammatory state presented by some patients. We investigated pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines, and the expression of inflammation-associated genes in treated FD patients, as well as oxidative parameters.

Clinicogenetic characterization and response to disease-modifying therapies in spinal muscular atrophy: real-world experience from a reference center in Southern Brazil.

Objective: Spinal Muscular Atrophy linked to chromosome 5q (SMA) is an autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive proximal muscle atrophy and weakness. Background And Objectives: This study aimed to compare socio-cognitive skills and emotion comprehension between children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and children with neurotypical development.

Methods: This quantitative, cross-sectional, controlled study involved 19 children in each group, matched by age (6-12 years) and sex. The assessments examined cognitive aspects (Intelligence Quotient was assessed using the Vocabulary and Matrix Reasoning subtests; working memory using the digit span and letter-number sequencing subtests; attention using the Continuous Performance Test - Identical Pairs; and executive functions using the Trail Making Test), social functions (Children's Social Skills, Behavior Problems, and Academic Competence Inventory), and emotion comprehension (language was assessed using the Strange Stories Test; emotional facial expressions using the digital emotion comprehension test; emotional/affective prosody using the Profiling Elements of Prosody in Speech-Communication - Brazilian Portuguese adapted version).

Long-lasting behavioral and neurochemical effects of early-life environmental enrichment in rats submitted to neonatal morphine administration.

The present study examined the medium- and long-term effects of early environmental enrichment (EE) on neuromotor, nociceptive, cognitive, behavioral, and neurochemical parameters in newborn rats repeatedly exposed to morphine. The study employed 90 Wistar rats: 10 adult nulliparous females and 80 male pups. Litter was split into standard and EE housing.

Evaluation of glial tumors: correlation between magnetic resonance imaging and histopathological analysis.

Objective: To determine the correlation of conventional and diffusion-weighted imaging findings on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain, based on Visually AcceSAble Rembrandt Images (VASARI) criteria, with the histopathological grading of gliomas: low-grade or high-grade.

Materials And Methods: Preoperative MRI scans of 178 patients with brain gliomas and pathological confirmation were rated by two neuroradiologists for tumor size, location, and tumor morphology, using a standardized imaging feature set based on the VASARI criteria.

Results: In the univariate analysis, more than half of the MRI characteristics evaluated showed a significant association with the tumor grade.

Popliteal artery pseudoaneurysm of spontaneous occurrence: a case report.

Idiopathic popliteal artery pseudoaneurysms are exceedingly rare, posing significant diagnostic challenges due to their elusive etiology. This report presents the case of a 78-year-old female with no history of trauma or orthopedic procedures who was diagnosed with a large pulsatile mass in the right popliteal fossa. Arteriography confirmed a popliteal artery pseudoaneurysm.

Knowledge, Attitudes, Practices, and Perceptions of Brazilian Dentists About Oral Cancer.

Dentists play a pivotal role in the early detection of oral cancer. Consequently, they are expected to possess the knowledge and the capability to recognize the features of this disease. The objective of the study is to evaluate dentists from different regions of Brazil regarding their level of knowledge and self-confidence regarding oral cancer.

Topiramate added to metformin for obesity control in women with polycystic ovary syndrome: a randomized clinical trial.

Context: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is often linked with obesity, and weight management can improve endocrine and cardiometabolic features.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of adding topiramate (TPM) to metformin (MTF) on weight control, hormonal and metabolic outcomes in women with PCOS.

Methods: In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, participants with PCOS and body mass index ≥30 kg/m² or ≥27 kg/m² associated with hypertension, type 2 diabetes, or dyslipidemia followed a 20 kcal/kg diet in addition to 850 mg of MTF or a previous MTF regimen.
