This guidance document was prepared on behalf of the International Council for Standardization in Haematology (ICSH) for providing haemostasis-related guidance documents for clinical laboratories. This inaugural coagulation ICSH document was developed by an ad hoc committee, comprised of international clinical and laboratory direct acting oral anticoagulant (DOAC) experts. The committee developed consensus recommendations for laboratory measurement of DOACs (dabigatran, rivaroxaban, apixaban and edoxaban), which would be germane for laboratories assessing DOAC anticoagulation.

Cátedra de Dermatología Prof. Dr. Miguel Martínez, Hospital de Clínicas Dr. Manuel Quintela, Universidad de la República, Montevideo, Uruguay.

Background And Objectives: The primary goal of Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) is to completely excise a cancerous lesion and a wide range of reconstructive techniques of varying complexity are used to close the resulting wound. In this study, we performed a descriptive analysis of patients who underwent MMS, with a focus on wound closure methods.

Material And Methods: We conducted a bidirectional descriptive cohort analysis of all MMS procedures performed by a single surgeon between November 2013 and April 2016.

Dysglycemia in the critically ill patient: current evidence and future perspectives.

Rev Bras Ter Intensiva

June 2018

Cátedra de Medicina Intensiva, Hospital de Clínicas Dr. Manuel Quintela, Facultad de Medicina, Universidad de la República - Montevideo, Uruguay.

Dysglycemia in critically ill patients (hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, glycemic variability and time in range) is a biomarker of disease severity and is associated with higher mortality. However, this impact appears to be weakened in patients with previous diabetes mellitus, particularly in those with poor premorbid glycemic control; this phenomenon has been called "diabetes paradox". This phenomenon determines that glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) values should be considered in choosing glycemic control protocols on admission to an intensive care unit and that patients' target blood glucose ranges should be adjusted according to their HbA1c values.

Background: Lactam cyclized alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) analogues exhibit high stability and affinity for the MC1-R receptors over expressed in melanoma cells. Recently, we reported a novel 99mTc-HYNIC-cycMSH4-13 analogue with the HYNIC chelator directly attached to the lactam cyclized ring.

Objective: In this study we proposed the introduction of a 6-aminohexanoic acid (Ahx) linker between the HYNIC chelator and lactam cyclized peptide cycMSH4-13 to reduce steric hindrance and improve the melanoma targeting and imaging proprieties of the radiolabeled peptide.

Cátedra de Dermatología "Prof. Miguel Martínez", Hospital de Clínicas "Dr. Manuel Quintela", Montevideo, Uruguay.

We present a series of 6 cases of disseminated superficial actinic porokeratosis and describe their dermoscopic features. Dermoscopy is a noninvasive in vivo technique that is useful as a tool for the diagnosis and follow-up of porokeratosis. This condition has specific dermoscopic features that were observed in our series of cases and that are consistent with reports in the international literature.

Unidad de Hipertension Arterial, Centro de Nefrologia, Departamento de Fisiopatologia, Hospital de Clinicas Dr. Manuel Quintela, Facultad de Medicina, Universidad de la Republica, Montevideo, Uruguay.

Hypertension and its consequences, including heart failure, stroke, and kidney disease, are responsible for substantial morbidity and mortality worldwide. Lifestyle changes, particularly sodium reduction, contribute to blood pressure control. However, not all individuals, whether normotensive or hypertensive, have the same susceptibility to the effects of salt.

Uruguay, with a total population of 3,345,000 inhabitants, is the Latin American country with the second highest number of renal replacement therapies. Long-term immunosuppressant therapy is essential for graft survival but results in reduced immunosurveillance, leading to an increased risk of complications. A variety of dermatological manifestations and a large increase in nonmelanoma skin cancers have been reported in this population.
