Background: The immune system is recognized to have therapeutic potential to destroy cancer cells. Soluble T-cell immunoglobulin mucin domain-3 (sTIM-3) and its ligand galectin 9 (Gal-9) cause suppression of cytokine production, cell cycle arrest and cell death. sTIM-3 and Gal-9 levels may have prognostic implications in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.

Background: Cancer immunotherapy has had an important role in oncologic therapeutics for patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) using checkpoint inhibitors. We will explore the possible prognosis biomarker candidates such as: soluble OX40 (sOX40), OX40L (sOX40L), Glucocorticoid-induced tumor necrosis factor receptor family-related receptor (GITR), and their ligand (GITRL), 4-1BB or tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily 9 (TNFRS9) and inducible T cell co-stimulator (ICOS) in peripheral blood of NSCLC patients.
Methods: Fifty-eight patients were diagnosed with advanced NSCLC between January 2019 and March 2020.

Background: Locally advanced triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) represents a public health problem in Brazil. Its standard treatment consists of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC).
Methods: This was a longitudinal study with follow-up performed between the years 2015 and 2017.

Background: Breast cancer (BC) is associated with a continuous increase in incidence, with high mortality rates in several countries. CD44, STAT3, and SOX2 are related to regulating of somatic cell division, tumorigenesis, and metastasis in BC.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out at the Hospital de Cancer de Pernambuco (HCP) between 2017 and 2018.

The sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-type lectin Siglec-15 is a promising target to cancer immunotherapy in several tumor types. The present study aimed to investigate Siglec-15 expression in gastric cancer (GC) patient tissue and to evaluate its clinical value. Siglec-15 expression was evaluated by immunohistochemistry with 71 patients.

However, the head and neck tumors, because of the anatomical location of the lesion, can themselves trigger significant changes in the feeding-related functions - including taste. To assess the gustatory function in patients diagnosed with advanced oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer.

The UDP-glucose 4-epimerase (GALE) is a glycosyltransferase, which acts on protein and lipid glycosylation in normal and neoplastic cells. This study is aimed at investigating the differential tissue expression of GALE and its possible association with clinical-pathological parameters and the outcome of gastric adenocarcinoma patients. Seventy-one patients were evaluated in relation to GALE expression by immunohistochemistry.

Nephrolithiasis is considered a systemic disease. A link has been established between nephrolithiasis, cardiovascular disease (CVD), the metabolic syndrome and atherosclerosis. A significant correlation has been found between the high levels of oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) and CVD and atherosclerosis, including coronary and femoral artery disease.

Among the radiotherapeutics' modalities, total body irradiation (TBI) is used as treatment for certain hematological, oncological and immunological diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term effects of low-dose TBI on plasma concentration of total protein and albumin using prematurely and undernourished rats as animal model. For this, four groups with 9 animals each were formed: Normal nourished (N); Malnourished (M); Irradiated Normal nourished (IN); Irradiated Malnourished (IM).

Background: The Extensive Intraoperative Peritoneal Lavage (EIPL) has been proposed as a practical prophylactic strategy to decrease the risk of peritoneal metastasis in gastric cancer.
Objective: To explore the safety and efficacy of the EIPL in our locally advanced gastric cancer patients.
Methods: This study is an open-label, double-center, single-arm phase II clinical trial developed at two tertiary hospitals from Recife (Pernambuco, Brazil).
