Article Synopsis
  • The study compared the combination of lenvatinib and pembrolizumab (len + pembro) with traditional chemotherapy for advanced or recurrent endometrial cancer (aEC) in patients who had not previously been treated.
  • Results showed that while len + pembro did not statistically outperform chemotherapy in terms of progression-free survival (PFS) or overall survival (OS), it offered similar outcomes, indicating noninferiority.
  • The trial involved 842 patients and found median PFS and OS were comparable between the two treatment groups, suggesting len + pembro could be an effective alternative to chemotherapy for this cancer type.

Methods: Multicenter prospective cohort study was conducted in Brazil between January 2022 and June 2023 when Omicron was predominant.

Introduction/objectives: The precise location of the tumor site is essential for the success of surgical treatment. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) is a challenge for preoperative tumor and node localization. Thus, the knowledge and attitudes of the affiliated members of the Brazilian Society of Mastology (SBM) regarding breast and axilla marking were evaluated and a consensus regarding management and treatment was reached.

This study aimed to analyze and compare the quantity of energy and fat using the infrared analysis and creamatocrit method in pasteurized human milk (HM) samples. This cross-sectional study analyzed 1,858 pasteurized human samples from 317 mothers at a single center. Infrared transmission spectrophotometry (Miris, Human Milk Analyser [HMA], Uppsala, Sweden) and the creamatocrit method were used to evaluate the quantity of energy and fat in pasteurized HM samples.

Gene expression assays (GEAs) can guide treatment for early-stage breast cancer. Several large prospective randomized clinical trials, and numerous additional studies, now provide new information for selecting an appropriate GEA. This systematic review builds upon prior reviews, with a focus on five widely commercialized GEAs (Breast Cancer Index®, EndoPredict®, MammaPrint®, Oncotype DX®, and Prosigna®).

BACKGROUND The dichotic digit test (DDT) is one of the tests for the behavioral assessment of central auditory processing. Dichotic listening tests are sensitive ways of assessing cortical structures, the corpus callossum, and binaural integration mechanisms, showing strong correlations with learning difficulties. The DDT is presently available in a number of languages, each appropriate for the subject's native language.

Melatonin changes energy metabolism and reduces oncogenic signaling in ovarian cancer cells.

Mol Cell Endocrinol

October 2024

Department of Structural and Functional Biology, UNESP - São Paulo State University, Institute of Biosciences, Botucatu, 18618-689, São Paulo, Brazil. Electronic address:

Ovarian cancer (OC) adjusts energy metabolism in favor of its progression and dissemination. Because melatonin (Mel) has antitumor actions, we investigated its impact on energy metabolism and kinase signaling in OC cells (SKOV-3 and CAISMOV-24). Cells were divided into control and Mel-treated groups, in the presence or absence of the antagonist luzindole.

Purpose: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) can be used as upfront therapy in aggressive breast cancer (BC). human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-low BC, defined as tumors scoring +1 or +2 on immunohistochemistry without HER2 gene amplification by in situ hybridization, lacks information on real-world data (RWD) outcomes, especially in the NAC setting. This subgroup, which does not reach the HER2 positive criteria due to its lower receptor expression, represents a distinct clinical category potentially requiring tailored therapeutic approaches.
