Background: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has been used extensively for H1N1 influenza and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) to improve gas exchange and quickly correct hypoxemia and hypercapnia. This systematic review summarized the evidence on ECMO for the treatment of COVID-19 and influenza-associated ARDS.
Research Design And Methods: This is a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies to compare the efficacy and safety of ECMO with conventional mechanical ventilation in adults with COVID-19 and influenza-associated ARDS.
Purpose: The study aimed at examining the lived experiences of relatives caring for family members with mental illness in Ghana.
Methods: Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was adopted to explore caregivers' in-depth experiences. Fifteen caregivers were purposefully selected from four hospitals within the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, and they were engaged in face-to-face interview sessions through the semi-structured guided interviews.

Objectives: Intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) and endovascular therapy (EVT) are the mainstays of treatment for large vessel occlusion stroke (LVOS). Prior studies have examined why patients have not received IVT, the most cited reasons being last-known-well (LKW) to hospital arrival of >4.5 hours and minor/resolving stroke symptoms.

Background: Many people living with HIV reported poor quality of life, which was primarily due to HIV-related stigma and the lack of social support. Compared with face-to-face interventions, e-health interventions are reported to have potential to help people living with HIV improve their adherence to antiretroviral therapy, promote their management of HIV and depressive symptoms. However, in the literature, the effectiveness of e-health interventions in helping people living with HIV reduce stigma, improve social support and quality of life is unclear.

The relationship between the type and intensities of lipids of blood and pancreas and the pathological changes in the pancreas during severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) remains unclear. In our study, we employed a rat model of SAP induced through intraperitoneal ornithine injections. We collected serum and pancreas samples at various time points (0-144 h) for histopathological and biochemical assessments, followed by lipidomic analyses using LC-MS/MS or in situ mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) To discern changes over time or at specific points, we employed time-course and univariate analyses for lipid screening, respectively.

Introduction: Perioperative myocardial injury evidenced by elevated cardiac biomarkers (both natriuretic peptides and troponin) is common after major non-cardiac surgery. However, it is unclear if the rise in cardiac biomarkers represents global or more localised cardiac injury. We have previously shown isolated right ventricular (RV) dysfunction in patients following lung resection surgery, with no change in left ventricular (LV) function.

Background: It is essential to evaluate the quality of life in patients with hematologic malignancies to reflect the therapeutic effect and prognosis, but lengthy assessments are often burdensome. The 7-Item Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General (FACT-G7) is a brief, easy, and rapid index for evaluating quality of life. Nevertheless, there is no report about its application in Chinese patients with hematologic malignancies.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) was once a devastating and fatal disease entity, the outlook of which has been significantly improved by the continued progress of medical treatment algorithms. However, some patients still ultimately fail to achieve an adequate clinical response despite receiving maximal medical treatment. Historically, lung transplantation (LTx) has been the only effective therapeutic option that could lead to satisfactory outcomes and save these advanced patients' lives.
