Modulation of microglial response could be a target to reduce neuroinflammation associated with Alzheimer's disease. In this study, we propose that lipophilic bioactive molecules present in pomace olive oil (POO), transported in triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRLs), are able to modulate microglial high-oleic sunflower oil (HOSO, points) or pomace olive oil (POO, stripes). In order to prove this hypothesis, a randomized crossover postprandial trial was performed in 18 healthy young women.

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a common disease associated with high morbidity and mortality. Currently, guidelines recommend systemic thrombolysis in patients with haemodynamic instability (high-risk PE) or patients with intermediate-high-risk PE with haemodynamic deterioration. Nevertheless, more than half of high-risk PE patients do not receive systemic thrombolysis due to a perceived increased risk of bleeding.

Locally advanced rectal cancer has traditionally been treated with chemoradiotherapy (CRT) followed by surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy. However, a new strategy, total neoadjuvant therapy, involves the administration of CRT and neoadjuvant chemotherapy with the aim of eradicating micrometastases earlier and achieving greater control of the disease. The use of total neoadjuvant therapy has shown higher rates of pathological complete response and resectability compared with CRT, including improved survival.

PARPi, in combination with ionizing radiation, has demonstrated the ability to enhance cellular radiosensitivity in different tumors. The rationale is that the exposure to radiation leads to both physical and biochemical damage to DNA, prompting cells to initiate three primary mechanisms for DNA repair. Two double-stranded DNA breaks (DSB) repair pathways: (1) non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ) and (2) homologous recombination (HR); and (3) a single-stranded DNA break (SSB) repair pathway (base excision repair, BER).

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how endophenotypes, which are traits linked to psychosis, connect to genetic factors by examining specific gene sets.
  • It analyzed data from 4,506 participants to compute polygenic risk scores related to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, ultimately measuring their association with seven different endophenotypes.
  • Results indicated a significant link between reduced P300 amplitude and higher schizophrenia risk linked to forebrain-related genes, suggesting genetic variants influence early brain development and may heighten psychosis risk in the future.
