Background: Left bundle branch area pacing (LBBAP) needs confirmation of left conduction system capture assessed by testing of different electrical parameters. Guidelines recommend the use of an electrophysiological recording-system (EP-RS) to guide conduction system pacing (CSP) procedures. Long-term humoral immunity and its protective role in liver transplantation (LT) patients have not been elucidated. We performed a prospective multicenter study to assess the persistence of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies in LT recipients 12 months after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). A total of 65 LT recipients were matched with 65 nontransplanted patients by a propensity score including variables with recognized impact on COVID-19.

Adipose Tissue Redox Microenvironment as a Potential Link between Persistent Organic Pollutants and the 16-Year Incidence of Non-hormone-Dependent Cancer.

We aimed to assess the relationships among the adipose tissue's (AT) oxidative microenvironment, accumulated persistent organic pollutant (POP) concentrations, and cancer development. POP and oxidative stress levels were quantified in AT samples from 382 adults recruited within the GraMo cohort (2003-2004) in Granada (Spain). The 16-year cancer incidence was ascertained by reviewing health/administrative databases.

Bacteremia caused by Anaerococcus SPP: Is this an underdiagnosed infection?

The objectives of this study were to report 10 episodes of clinically significant bacteremia caused by species of the genus Anaerococcus isolated between July 2018 and February 2021 from the microbiology laboratory of a tertiary hospital in Granada (Spain). None of the isolates were identified by MALDI-TOF MS, and the definitive species identification was performed by 16 S rRNA gene sequencing. No reference spectra of the Anaerococcus species were present in the MALDI-TOF MS database.

Brain lymphoma development related to a long lasting epidermoid cyst.

Introduction: Epidermoid cysts (EC) are benign and slow growing lesions. A primary brain lymphoma development related to a EC is presented, second case described in literature.

Case Presentation: A woman 40 years old, harbouring a EC for more than 20 years, develops a fast growing brain lesion next to the EC.

Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension in Corrected Valvular Heart Disease: Hemodynamic Insights and Long-Term Survival.

Background The determinants and consequences of pulmonary hypertension after successfully corrected valvular heart disease remain poorly understood. We aim to clarify the hemodynamic bases and risk factors for mortality in patients with this condition. Methods and Results We analyzed long-term follow-up data of 222 patients with pulmonary hypertension and valvular heart disease successfully corrected at least 1 year before enrollment who had undergone comprehensive hemodynamic and imaging characterization as per the SIOVAC (Sildenafil for Improving Outcomes After Valvular Correction) clinical trial.

Bacteremia caused by Veillonella dispar in an oncological patient.

Veillonella dispar is a Gram-negative anaerobic coccus involved in only a few human diseases. We report the second case of bacteremia due to this microorganism in an elderly patient. A 72-year-old man with a history of bladder cancer presented with diarrhea, vomiting, and fever for 48 hours.

First description of abdominal infection due to Alistipes onderdonkii.

Alistipes spp is a genus of Gram-negative anaerobic rods involved in very few human diseases. We report the first case of abdominal infection due to Alistipes onderdonkii in a 58-year-old man with a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He presented with abdominal pain and general malaise after retrogastric drainage for a pancreatitis episode a few days earlier.

Use of bone scintigraphy in the early diagnosis of bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis of the jaw. Case report and review of the literature.

The main aim of the present report is to show the potential utility of bone scintigraphy for the diagnosis of jaw osteonecrosis. We report the history of a 62-year-old woman underwent breast cancer surgery in 2010. Moreover, patient received postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

Thyroid Cancer Epidemiology in South Spain: a population-based time trend study.

Purpose: Thyroid cancer (TC) is the most common malignant disease of the endocrine system. The aim of this study was to analyze incidence and mortality trends of TC (C73 according to ICD-O-3) in Granada (Southern Spain) during the period 1985-2013, by sex, age, and histological type.

Due to the increasing intake of raw fish, the appearance of keriorrhea in our environment has become more and more frequent. We present three clinical cases in order to aknowledge this sign and avoid unnecesary diagnostic tests.

Urology is a medical-surgical specialty that deals with the study, diagnosis and treatment of the medical and surgical diseases of the urinary apparatus and retroperitoneum in both sexes and the male genital apparatus without age limit, due to congenital, traumatic, septic, metabolic, obstructive and oncological conditions. Urologic oncology is the broadest urological part, where research and new advances make continuous learning essential. In this chapter we treat all academic features related with training in the field of Urooncology.

Association between polymorphisms in sex hormones synthesis and metabolism and prostate cancer aggressiveness.

Novel biomarkers for prostate cancer (PCa) diagnosis and prognosis are necessary to improve the accuracy of current ones employed in clinic. We performed a retrospective study between the association of several polymorphisms in the main genes involved in the synthesis and metabolism of sex hormones and PCa risk and aggressiveness. A total of 311 Caucasian men (155 controls and 156 patients) were genotyped for 9 SNPs in AR, CYP17A1, LHCGR, ESR1 and ESR2 genes.

White starburst-like pattern as a dermoscopic clue in Old World cutaneous leishmaniasis.

A 70-year-old woman was referred to our dermatological unit by her general practitioner last summer, with a history of a two-month ulcerated purplish lesion on her left arm that spread centrifugally and that unsuccessfully treated with topical corticosteroids. The dermoscopic evaluation revealed an erythematous macula with central ulceration that showed the characteristic called "white starburst-like pattern" and some vascular structures (dotted vessels, polymorphous⁄ atypical vessels). The diagnosis of cutaneous leishmaniasis was made after histopathologic analysis and polymerase chain reaction essay.

Alopecia areata totalis and universalis: a multicenter review of 132 patients in Spain.

Background: Alopecia areata totalis (AAT) and universalis (AAU) pose a therapeutic challenge.
