In Europe, the prevalence of AF is expected to increase 2.5-fold over the next 50 years with a lifetime risk of 1 in 3-5 individuals after the age of 55 years and a 34% rise in AF-related strokes. The PREFATE project investigates evidence gaps in the early detection of atrial fibrillation in high-risk populations within primary care.

To evaluate the quality of life (QoL) in patients with breakthrough cancer pain (BTcP) in Spanish medical oncology departments. In a prospective, observational, multicenter study, we assessed QoL using the EQ-5D-5L instrument at baseline and after 15 and 30 days of individualized BTcP therapy, as well as BTcP characteristics and treatment. Patients (n = 118) were mainly women, over 64 years old and with advanced cancer.

Background And Objective: AFRICAT is a prospective cohort study intending to develop an atrial fibrillation (AF) screening program through the combination of blood markers, rhythm detection devices, and long-term monitoring in our community. In particular, we aimed to validate the use of NT-proBNP, and identify new blood biomarkers associated with AF. Also, we aimed to compare AF detection using various wearables and long-term Holter monitoring.

Purpose: To evaluate a model for calculating the risk of AF and its relationship with the incidence of ischemic stroke and prevalence of cognitive decline.
Materials And Methods: It was a multicenter, observational, retrospective, community-based study of a cohort of general population ≥6ct 35 years, between 01/01/2016 and 31/12/2018. Setting: Primary Care.
Background: We assessed the prevalence of antibodies against hepatitis C virus (HCV-Abs) and active HCV infection in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in Spain in 2016 and compared the results with those of similar studies performed in 2002, 2009, and 2015.
Methods: The study was performed in 43 centers during October-November 2016. The sample was estimated for an accuracy of 2% and selected by proportional allocation and simple random sampling.

Urinary bladder xanthoma (UBX) is an infrequent lesion that has been very rarely referred to in medical literature. We describe a case of UBX that was associated with a low-grade transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder. The cystoscopic aspect of this lesion was so characteristic that diagnosis could be suggested at cystoscopy, while histological examination confirmed this.

Muscle hernias of the lower leg involving the tibialis anterior, peroneus brevis, and lateral head of the gastrocnemius were found in three different patients. MRI findings allowed recognition of herniated muscle in all cases and identification of fascial defect in two of them. MR imaging findings and the value of dynamic MR imaging is emphasized.

Pericarditis is the most frequent cardiac manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), but pericardial effusion causing tamponade rarely occurs, and it is even less frequent for the pericardial tamponade to be the presenting feature of SLE. We report a case of pericardial tamponade due to SLE with severe hemodynamic involvement as the clinical presentation of the disease. We comment on its clinical course and its rarity in the medical literature.

Tracheobronchial amyloidosis is the most frequent manifestation of pulmonary amyloidosis. We present the case of a patient who initially presented pneumonia with atelectasis in the upper right lobe (URL) and in whom the presence of nodular bodies in all the bronchial tree was detected with bronchoscopy, with almost complete obstruction of the URL bronchus, identified as amyloid AL. Therapy with laser photoresection was effective, with almost complete resolution of the obstruction.
