Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension is a rare and progressive disease with poor prognosis. Many patients progressively worsen even when using combinations of specific drugs for its treatment. We assessed the main characteristics of infection control committees (ICCs) on healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in Brazilian hospitals.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in ICCs of public and private hospitals distributed across all Brazilian regions.

Objective: To describe the IMPACTO-MR, a Brazilian nationwide intensive care unit platform study focused on the impact of health care-associated infections due to multidrug-resistant bacteria.
Methods: We described the IMPACTO-MR platform, its development, criteria for intensive care unit selection, characterization of core data collection, objectives, and future research projects to be held within the platform.
Results: The core data were collected using the Epimed Monitor System® and consisted of demographic data, comorbidity data, functional status, clinical scores, admission diagnosis and secondary diagnoses, laboratory, clinical, and microbiological data, and organ support during intensive care unit stay, among others.

Study Objective: To evaluate continuance rates, bleeding patterns, and patient satisfaction with 52-mg levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) use in adolescents and young adult women during the first 3 years of use DESIGN: We conducted an observational prospective study.
Setting: Family Planning Service of a tertiary hospital in Brazil PARTICIPANTS: One hundred adolescents and young women aged 16-24 years.
Intervention: Insertion of 52-mg LNG-IUS for the main purpose of contraception.

There are several treatment modalities for the management of subdural fluid collection in infants, such as fontanelle puncture and drainage, burr hole irrigation, and subduroperitoneal shunt. This report describes the case of a girl born with congenital neurological impairment due to severe injury of the brain with unknown etiology. At five months of age, she suffered from head trauma and developed somnolence after three days and was diagnosed with a bilateral massive chronic subdural hematoma.

In the past four decades, enormous advances have been made in the neuroendoscopic techniques, along with improvement of illumination, and the development of effective instruments. As a result, endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) and choroid plexus cauterization (CPC) have become consolidated techniques for the treatment of hydrocephalus. In particular, endoscopic cauterization of the choroid plexus has increased the effectiveness of hydrocephalus treatment in combination with ETV.

Objective: To evaluate the long-term subjective cure rate of the transobturator sling, including an analysis of the risk factors and of the impact of increased surgical experience on the results.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study of women who underwent transobturator sling surgery from 2005 to 2011 was conducted. Patients were evaluated by a telephone survey using the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form (ICIQ-SF) and by subjective questions regarding satisfaction.

Despite offering advantages the direct retroperitoneal laparoscopic approach has not found uniform acceptance due to small working space in the retroperitoneum. Retroperitoneoscopy is our preferred approach for performing radical nephrectomy for localized renal tumors.
