Background The objective of this review is to study the demographics, aetiology, clinical findings, and surgical outcomes of patients who presented with ocular trauma and underwent emergency operations at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Methods Patients who presented from 2016 to 2023 with ocular trauma and underwent emergency ocular surgery were identified and their medical records were reviewed with respect to demographics, mechanism of injury, type of injury, initial presenting visual acuity and final visual acuity after surgery. Components of the ocular trauma score (OTS) were also recorded.

A 22-year-old Malaysian male presented with a closed posterior dislocation of the right hip with femoral head fracture (Pipkin II) after an alleged motor vehicle accident (MVA). This type of injury may pose future complications, such as avascular necrosis, post-traumatic osteoarthritis, or heterotopic ossification to the hip joint, and later affect joint function. After an immediate closed reduction of the hip, the patient underwent Ganz Surgical dislocation of the hip - a surgical method used to aid the reconstruction of the bony defect of the femoral head.

Objectives: This study aims to address the significant knowledge gap in the literature on the implementation of Casemix system in total hospital information systems (THIS). The research focuses on validating a quantitative instrument to assess medical doctors' acceptance of the Casemix system in Ministry of Health (MOH) Malaysia facilities using THIS.
Designs: A sequential explanatory mixed-methods study was conducted, starting with a cross-sectional quantitative phase using a self-administered online questionnaire that adapted previous instruments to the current setting based on Human, Organisation, Technology-Fit and Technology Acceptance Model frameworks, followed by a qualitative phase using in-depth interviews.
Basilar invagination in a Chiari malformation associated with osteogenesis imperfecta in the pediatric population is a rare entity. We report a case of a seven-year-old female who presented with sudden-onset bilateral spastic quadriplegia and evidence of a basilar invagination on MRI. She underwent emergency decompression of the impinging odontoid via transoral approach followed by posterior wiring and fusion of the C1 and C2 vertebrae.

A 61-year-old Malaysian Chinese man who has high myopia complained of both eye floaters. Spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) of the macula showed bilateral posterior staphyloma with right eye (RE) foveoschisis without macula detachment, which had been stable for a seven-year follow-up. When bilateral YAG laser vitreolysis could not alleviate his symptoms, he underwent pars plana vitrectomy with the inducement of posterior vitreous detachment, first in the left eye, followed by the RE one month later.

A 12-year-old boy with underlying severeand poorly controlled atopic dermatitis (AD) associated with atopic conjunctivitis and rhinitis presented with a right painless blurring of vision for two weeks. On examination, his right eye visual acuity was 1/60,with grade 1 relative afferent pupillary defect (RAPD). Scleral buckle (SB) removal is done for a variety of reasons following treatment of rhegmatogenous retinal detachments (RRD), such as buckle exposure, migration, and infection. The most worrying complication of SB removal is retinal redetachment. We report a unique case of a patient developing strabismus about one month after scleral buckle removal for anterior migration and exposure of the scleral buckle.

Sporotrichosis is a subcutaneous mycotic infection, caused by the dimorphic fungi . Ocular sporotrichosis has both intraocular and adnexal forms. We describe two cases of sporotrichosis involving the conjunctiva of two healthy individuals after inoculation by their pet cats, with complete resolution of lesions after antifungal treatment.

A carotid-cavernous fistula (CCF) is an arteriovenous fistula with an abnormal connection between the carotid artery and cavernous sinus that can be sight and life-threatening. The conjunctival injection is often the most prominent feature, and patients are commonly misdiagnosed for other ocular conditions leading to a delay in diagnosis and treatment. All three patients in this case series presented with persistent red eyes.

Aggressive retinopathy of prematurity (A-ROP), formerly known as aggressive posterior retinopathy of prematurity (APROP), occurs generally in extremely premature infants less than 28 weeks gestational age with extreme low birth weight of ≤1000g. We report a case of A-ROP occurring in a larger and less preterm infant. The possible risk factors that lead to the occurrence of A-ROP in this infant will be discussed.
