(1) Cardiac donation after circulatory death (DCD) is an emerging paradigm in organ transplantation. However, this technique is recent and has only been implemented by highly experienced centers. This study compares the characteristics and outcomes of thoraco-abdominal normothermic regional perfusion (TANRP) and static cold-storage DCD and traditional donation after brain death (DBD) cardiac transplants (CT) in a newly stablished transplant program with restricted donor availability.

The mechanisms underlying severe allergic asthma are complex and unknown, meaning it is a challenge to provide the most appropriate treatment. This study aimed to identify novel biomarkers for stratifying allergic asthmatic patients according to severity, and to uncover the biological mechanisms that lead to the development of the severe uncontrolled phenotype. By using miRNA PCR panels, we analyzed the expression of 752 miRNAs in serum samples from control subjects ( = 15) and mild ( = 11) and severe uncontrolled ( = 10) allergic asthmatic patients.

Objective: Many tools have been used to assess frailty in the perioperative setting. However, no single scale has been shown to be the most effective in predicting postoperative complications. We evaluated the relationship between several frailty scales and the occurrence of complications following different non-cardiac surgeries.

Chronic heart failure (CHF) represents a challenge for the healthy system due to its high prevalence, high burden of morbidity and mortality, and high consumption of health resources. To address this problem, it is necessary to develop efficient management strategies that include both hospital care and outpatient care. The primary objective is to stabilize the patient and prevent decompensation, with the consequent improvement in quality of life, reduction in hospital admissions and emergency department care, and, consequently, reduction in healthcare costs.

Background: Antibiotic resistance is a worldwide concern. This study retrospectively analyzed patients admitted to the ICU of a tertiary hospital over a period of 7 months who were rectally colonized by multidrug-resistant microorganisms. The incidence of concomitant nosocomial infections was estimated, thus providing the risk of a colonizing microorganism producing a nosocomial infection.

This multicenter study sponsored by the GETH-TC investigates the incidence and predictors of early (first 100 days) and late cardiac events (CEs; ECEs and LCEs, respectively) after allo-HCT in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) treated with anthracyclines, focusing on exploring the impact of PTCY on cardiac complications and the impact of CEs on OS and NRM. A total of 1020 patients with AML were included. PTCY was given to 450 (44.

Digoxin is commonly used to treat acute heart failure (AHF), especially in patients with concurrent atrial fibrillation (AF). Nonetheless, there is little consensus about in which patients digoxin should be given, the proper time for digoxin initiation, and whether digoxin initiation is associated with improved outcomes. We investigated factors related to digoxin initiation after an episode of AHF and whether patients receiving digoxin presented better short-term outcomes.

Aims: The aim of this study was to determine the clinical profile, associated events and safety of vericiguat in a real-world cohort of patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).
Methods: This study is a prospective and observational cohort study of patients with HFrEF and recent HF worsening episodes requiring intravenous therapy who initiated vericiguat in an HF outpatient clinic. A subanalysis of patients with ≥6 months' follow-up was performed separately.

The management of schizophrenia necessitates a comprehensive treatment paradigm that considers individual patient nuances and the efficacy of lurasidone in addressing schizophrenia symptoms, particularly at elevated dosages. Numerous randomized trials have affirmed the efficacy of lurasidone across various dimensions of schizophrenia, demonstrating marked enhancements in positive, negative and cognitive symptoms compared to a placebo. In addition, lurasidone exhibits potential in ameliorating agitation amongst acutely ill patients, showcasing greater efficacy at higher doses.

Spanish Autonomous Communities (ACs) are entitled to decide on the prescription requirements of their own territories, which can create inequalities in access to new drugs in the management of psoriasis. The objective of this study was to assess whether the level of restrictions in the access to new drugs for the management psoriasis was associated with the probability of achieving disease control measured using the Minimum Disease Activity (MDA) criteria. Therefore, we combined the results of 2 previous independent, cross-sectional studies: one that described the MDA in psoriasis by AC, and another that evaluated the level of restrictions to drug access by AC.

Detecting the association of genetic variants to the response of biological therapy represents an important advance in developing a personalized therapy. The aim of this work was to study the association of polymorphisms with an optimal response to tildrakizumab in patients with psoriasis in a real-life clinical practice. Ninety patients with plaque psoriasis recruited from-Spanish hospitals receiving tildrakizumab for at least 24 weeks were genotyped for 180 polymorphisms.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy is approved for the treatment of relapsed/refractory (R/R) large B cell lymphoma (LBCL). However, elderly patients might not be candidates for this therapy due to its toxicity, and criteria for candidate selection are lacking. Our aim was to analyze efficacy and toxicity results of CAR-T cell therapy in the population of patients 70 years and older as compared to those obtained in younger patients in the real-world setting.
