Introduction: Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) is an immune-mediated, inflammatory, multisystemic disease that is considered a form of ANCA-associated vasculitis and whose association with asthma and blood and tissue eosinophilia differentiate it from other types of vasculitis. Nevertheless, diagnosis of EGPA may be difficult or delayed not only because of the rarity of the disease, but also because other diseases can present with similar manifestations.
Areas Covered: We review a series of key areas in EGPA, namely, laboratory and clinical indicators of disease, diagnosis, role of biomarkers, induction and maintenance therapy, and use of traditional and novel drugs.

Background: Patients with heart failure (HF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have a high risk of hospital admission and mortality. This study evaluated the benefit of a care model, characterized by comprehensive and continuous care (UMIPIC program) in patients with HF and a history of COPD.
Methods: A total of 5644 patients were prospectively recruited, of which 1320 had a history of COPD between March 2008 and March 2020.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy fails to achieve durable responses in over 60% of relapsed/refractory (R/R) large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) patients in the third or later line setting. After CAR-T failure, survival outcomes are heterogeneous and a prognostic model in this patient population is lacking. A training cohort of 216 patients with progressive disease (PD) after CAR-T from 12 Spanish centers was used to develop the Post-CAR Prognostic Index (PC-PI); primary endpoint was overall survival (OS) from CAR-T progression.

Background: Identification of biomarkers to optimize treatment strategies for early-stage triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is crucial. This study presents the development and validation of TNBC-DX, a novel test aimed at predicting both short- and long-term outcomes in early-stage TNBC. The objective of this study was to evaluate the association between TNBC-DX and efficacy outcomes [pathologic complete response (pCR), distant disease-free survival (DDFS) or event-free survival (EFS), and overall survival (OS)] in the validation cohorts.

Background: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is associated with high morbidity and hospitalization rate. In infectious diseases, host genetics plays a critical role in susceptibility and immune response, and the immune pathways involved are highly dependent on the microorganism and its route of infection. Here we aimed to identify genetic risk loci for CAP using a case-control genome-wide association study (GWAS).

Heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (pEF) has lacked effective treatments for reducing mortality. However, previous studies have found an association between statin use and decreased mortality in patients with HFpEF. The aim of this study was to analyse whether statin therapy is associated with a reduction in mortality in these patients and whether the effect differs according to the presence or absence of ischaemic heart disease (IHD).

: The change in critically ill patients makes limitation of therapeutic effort (LTE) a widespread practice when therapeutic goals cannot be achieved. We aimed to describe the application of LTE in a post-surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU), analyze the measures used, the characteristics of the patients, and their evolution. Retrospective observational study, including all patients to whom LTE was applied in a postsurgical ICU between January 2021 and December 2022.

Background: In patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) chronic infection and advanced liver disease, the impact of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) coinfection on the clinical outcome after sustained virological response (SVR) has not been sufficiently clarified. The aim of this study was to compare the mortality after SVR of patients bearing HCV chronic infection and advanced liver fibrosis, with and without HIV-coinfection after a prolonged follow-up.
Methods: This was a prospective multicenter cohort study including individuals with HIV/HCV-coinfection and patients with HCV-monoinfection from Spain, fulfilling: 1) Liver stiffness (LS) ≥9.
