Article Synopsis
  • Gram-negative MDR bacteria like Enterobacterales, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa create significant clinical challenges due to complex infections and diagnostics, especially with MBL-producing strains.
  • While colistin is effective against these pathogens, its use is limited by resistance and potential kidney damage, making it a last-resort option.
  • Newer combinations, including aztreonam with avibactam and cefiderocol, show promising results and are favored for treating MBL-producing infections, with more research needed to refine treatment strategies.

Background And Objective: The emergence of highly tolerable, effective, and shorter duration direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) regimens offers the opportunity to simplify hepatitis C virus management but medical costs are unknown. Thus, we aimed to determine the direct medical costs associated with a combo-simplified strategy (one-step diagnosis and low monitoring) to manage HCV infection within an 8-week glecaprevir/pibrentasvir (GLE/PIB) regimen in clinical practice in Spain.

Patients And Methods: Healthcare resources and clinical data were collected retrospectively from medical charts of 101 eligible patients at 11 hospitals.

Background: Tumor human leukocyte antigen class I (HLA-I) expression plays an important role in T cell-mediated tumor rejection. Loss of HLA-I is associated with cancer progression and resistance to immunotherapy, including antibodies blocking programmed death-1/programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-1/PD-L1) signaling. Our objective was to analyze a correlation between HLA-I, tumor immune infiltration, and PD-L1/PD-1 axis in bladder cancer in association with the clinicopathologic features of patients.

Response criteria for multiple myeloma (MM) require monoclonal protein (M-protein)-negative status on both serum immunofixation electrophoresis (sIFE) and urine (uIFE) immunofixation electrophoresis for classification of complete response (CR). However, uIFE is not always performed for sIFE-negative patients. We analyzed M-protein evaluations from 384 MM patients (excluding those with light-chain-only disease) treated in the GEM2012MENOS65 (NCT01916252) trial to determine the uIFE-positive rate in patients who became sIFE-negative posttreatment and evaluate rates of minimal residual disease (MRD)-negative status and progression-free survival (PFS) among patients achieving CR, CR but without uIFE available (uncertain CR; uCR), or very good partial response (VGPR).
