Current therapies for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: a systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature.

Aims: The aim of this study was to synthesize the evidence on the effect of the current therapies over the pathophysiological and clinical characteristics of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).

Methods And Results: A systematic review and meta-analysis of 41 studies identified from 1383 retrieved from PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane was conducted. Therapies were grouped in pharmacological, invasive and physical exercise.

Clinical Implications of the Genetic Background in Pediatric Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension: Data from the Spanish REHIPED Registry.

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a severe and rare disease with an important genetic background. The influence of genetic testing in the clinical classification of pediatric PAH is not well known and genetics could influence management and prognosis.

Objectives: The aim of this work was to identify the molecular fingerprint of PH children in the (REHIPED), and to investigate if genetics could have an impact in clinical reclassification and prognosis.

We aim to determine the impact of ABC pathway in a contemporary cohort of clinically complex AF patients.

Expert recommendations about the use of gadoxetic acid in patients with liver metastases in Spain.

Background And Aims: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with gadoxetic acid is widely used in clinical practice in Spain for the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of patients with liver metastases, although its use varies. This paper aims to provide recommendations for the use of MRI with gadoxetic acid in the detection and diagnosis of liver metastases in clinical practice in Spain.

Material And Methods: This project was undertaken by a group of nine experts who analyzed a series of recommendations about the use of gadoxetic acid extracted from international consensus documents.

Objectives: To investigate the adherence to ABC pathway and its impact on adverse outcomes in AF patients with cancer.

Methods: Patients enrolled in the EORP-AF General Long-Term Registry were analyzed according to (i) No Cancer; and (ii) Prior or active cancer and stratified in relation to adherence to the ABC pathway.

Natural History of MYH7-Related Dilated Cardiomyopathy.

Background: Variants in myosin heavy chain 7 (MYH7) are responsible for disease in 1% to 5% of patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM); however, the clinical characteristics and natural history of MYH7-related DCM are poorly described.

Objectives: We sought to determine the phenotype and prognosis of MYH7-related DCM. We also evaluated the influence of variant location on phenotypic expression.

The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between physical fitness, cardiopulmonary function and patient-reported severity of symptoms in people with post-COVID-19 condition. We examined ambulatory patients (n = 72) with post-COVID-19 condition who had a chronic symptomatic phase lasting > 12 weeks from the onset of symptoms, but had not been hospitalized for acute COVID-19. A comprehensive medical screening was conducted, including clinical history, symptomatology, comorbidities, body composition and physical activity levels.

Oral Co-Supplementation of Curcumin, Quercetin, and Vitamin D3 as an Adjuvant Therapy for Mild to Moderate Symptoms of COVID-19-Results From a Pilot Open-Label, Randomized Controlled Trial.

Curcumin, quercetin, and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) are common natural ingredients of human nutrition and reportedly exhibit promising anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, broad-spectrum antiviral, and antioxidant activities. The present study aimed to investigate the possible therapeutic benefits of a single oral formulation containing supplements curcumin, quercetin, and cholecalciferol (combinedly referred to here as CQC) as an adjuvant therapy for early-stage of symptomatic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in a pilot open-label, randomized controlled trial conducted at Mayo Hospital, King Edward Medical University, Lahore, Pakistan. Life expectancy after surgical aortic valve replacement for low-gradient aortic stenosis with preserved ejection fraction.

Introduction And Objectives: Surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) can modify the natural history of severe aortic stenosis (SAS). However, compared with the general population, these patients have a loss of life expectancy. The life expectancy of patients who undergo SAVR due to low-gradient SAS with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is unknown.

Background: The frequency of cognitive impairment (CI) reported in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is highly variable, and its relationship with demographic and clinical characteristics is poorly understood. We aimed to describe the cognitive profile of NMOSD patients, and to analyse the cognitive differences according to their serostatus; furthermore, we aimed to assess the relationship between cognition, demographic and clinical characteristics, and other aspects linked to health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Short-term effects of dapagliflozin on maximal functional capacity in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (DAPA-VO ): a randomized clinical trial.

Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of dapagliflozin on 1 and 3-month maximal functional capacity in patients with stable heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).

Methods And Results: In this multicentre, randomized, double-blind clinical trial, 90 stable patients with HFrEF were randomly assigned to receive either dapagliflozin (n = 45) or placebo (n = 45). The primary outcome was a change in peak oxygen consumption (peakVO ) at 1 and 3 months.

GECOP-MMC: phase IV randomized clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) with mytomicin-C after complete surgical cytoreduction in patients with colon cancer peritoneal metastases.

Background: The French PRODIGE 7 trial, published on January 2021, has raised doubts about the specific survival benefit provided by HIPEC with oxaliplatin 460 mg/m (30 minutes) for the treatment of peritoneal metastases from colorectal cancer. However, several methodological flaws have been identified in PRODIGE 7, specially the HIPEC protocol or the choice of overall survival as the main endpoint, so its results have not been assumed as definitive, emphasizing the need for further research on HIPEC. It seems that the HIPEC protocol with high-dose mytomicin-C (35 mg/m) is the preferred regime to evaluate in future clinical studies.

Unnecessary Use of Corticosteroids for managing early mild symptoms of COVID-19 may lead to Rhino-ortibal-cerebral mucormycosis in Patients with Diabetes - a case series from Lahore, Pakistan.

Rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis (ROCM), a rare but fatal fungal infection, has recently emerged as a serious complication after corticosteroids therapy in COVID-19 patients, predominantly in diabetic and immunocompromised patients. The World Health Organization (WHO) COVID-19 current guidelines recommend corticosteroids administration in hospitalized COVID-19 patients requiring supplementary oxygen or mechanical ventilation. Herein, we report a case series of seven patients with COVID-19; three mild, three moderate, and one severe, from Lahore, Pakistan; all were using corticosteroids for managing their early mild symptoms of COVID-19 at home for around 2-3 weeks without a physician's advise, presented, and admitted with ROCM to Mayo hospital, Lahore, from March to June 2021.

Clinical practice guidelines for transsexual, transgender and gender diverse minors.

Some people, including minors, have a gender identity that does not correspond to the sex assigned at birth. They are known as trans* people, which is an umbrella term that encompasses transgender, transsexual, and other identities not conforming to the assigned gender. Healthcare units for trans* minors require multidisciplinary working, undertaken by personnel expert in gender identity, enabling, when requested, interventions for the minor and their social-familial environment, in an individualized and flexible way during the gender affirmation path.
