The nasal columella is considered by many to be the most difficult nasal aesthetic subunit to reconstruct, due to its delicate anatomy and central location. Full thickness columellar defects are particularly challenging. Being in the midline of the face, the nasal columella receives vascularization from terminal arterial branches, so adjacent local flaps have limited arcs of rotation or may be too bulky, thus withdrawing the options for reconstruction.

Introduction: Gastric cancer is still the third cause of death worldwide due to malignant neoplasms. Its prognostic indices have not yet been well defined for surgical intervention in terms of stratifying the intensity of chronic inflammation. The Glasgow Prognostic Score (GPS) and O-POSSUM and P-POSSUM Indices may constitute these standardizations and were tested to assess the association between them and the prognosis after curative gastrectomy.

Introduction: Cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential is a test used in neurotological examination. It verifies the integrity of vestibular function through a muscular response evoked by an acoustic stimulation which activates the saccular macula. Normal standards in adults have been established, however, there are few published data on the normal responses in children.

[Apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with right ventricular involvement].

We report right ventricular involvement in apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCMP) in two women and one man, aged from 19 to 44 years-old, who presented different signs from those with left ventricular disease (who have good clinical evolution), with signs and symptoms of severe diastolic restriction, showing great atrial enlargement and two with atrial fibrillation and death due to thromboembolism. The right ventricular involvement in apical HCMP leads to a worst prognosis than isolated left ventricular disease, does not have the typical electrocardiographic changes and presents with ventricular restriction and tricuspid regurgitation.

[Lipids, microalbuminuria and systemic blood pressure in patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus].

Purpose: To determine the association between lipids, microalbuminuria and systemic blood pressure. Urinary albumin excretion rate (AER) was determined in timed overnight urine samples by radioimmunoassay. Microalbuminuria was defined when two out of three urine samples had AER ranging 20-200 micrograms/min.

[Tuberculous pericarditis as the initial manifestation of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome].

The most common externalization of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is opportunist infection, and tuberculosis is one of the most frequent agents. The tuberculous pericarditis has been associated with AIDS, but it exceptionally occurs as the first event in the syndrome. We reported four cases in which tuberculous pericarditis was the initial manifestation of AIDS, characterizing by its clinical picture, diagnostic methods, therapeutics and the evolution of this involvement.

Methods: We reviewed 963 coronary angiographies performed at a same institution. [Long-term results of mitral valve prosthesis in patients with severe anatomo-functional involvement of the left ventricle].

The purpose of this paper was to study the long term results (3.6 +/- 1.4 years) of 74 patients with severe mitral regurgitation (MR), with cardiomegaly and functional class (FC) III and IV, who underwent mitral valve replacement with biologic and mechanical prostheses.
