Introduction: Neurosurgery for brain tumors needs to find a complex balance between the effective removal of targeted tissue and the preservation of surrounding brain areas. Neuromodulation-induced cortical prehabilitation (NICP) is a promising strategy that combines temporary inhibition of critical areas (virtual lesion) with intensive behavioral training to foster the activation of alternative brain resources. By progressively reducing the functional relevance of targeted areas, the goal is to facilitate resection with reduced risks of neurological sequelae.

In anthropological, medical, and forensic studies, the nonrecombinant region of the human Y chromosome (NRY) enables accurate reconstruction of pedigree relationships and retrieval of ancestral information. Using high-throughput sequencing (HTS) data, we present a benchmarking analysis of command-line tools for NRY haplogroup classification. The evaluation was performed using paired Illumina data from whole-genome sequencing (WGS) and whole-exome sequencing (WES) experiments from 50 unrelated donors.

Introduction: Pre-eclampsia affects 2%-8% of pregnancies and is one of the leading causes of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. First-trimester screening using an algorithm that combines maternal characteristics, mean arterial blood pressure, uterine artery pulsatility index and biomarkers (pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A and placental growth factor) is the method that achieves a greater diagnostic accuracy. It has been shown that daily salicylic acid administration before 16 weeks in women at a high risk for pre-eclampsia can reduce the incidence of preterm pre-eclampsia.

This paper aims to examine the recent experience in telemedicine (TM) management of patients with severe asthma (SA). A committee of health professionals involved in asthma management (pulmonology, allergology, respiratory nursing, and hospital pharmacy) held discussion meetings on the practical experience of TM for the management of SA and the means available complemented with a bibliographic search to know the current status of TM in SA. The main barriers detected for the implementation of TM in SA have been the lack of technological training, the lack of registration of TM in the clinical history, the care overload, or the connectivity problems at the administration level.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 has underscored the need for rapid and accurate diagnostic methods. Reverse Transcription Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (RT-LAMP) has emerged as a promising molecular tool in least developed countries due to its simplicity, speed, and sensitivity. Nevertheless, reliable SARS-CoV-2 detection can be challenged by the chain custody of the samples.

In this cross-sectional study, we evaluated the associations of inflammation and hemoglobin with coronary artery disease (CAD) in subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and preserved kidney function. We recruited 638 participants-254 with T2DM-subjected to coronary angiography with no known cardiovascular disease, normal glomerular filtration rates, and without albuminuria. The hemoglobin and serum levels of inflammatory markers, including high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), were measured.

Renal hypouricemia (RHUC) is a rare hereditary disorder caused by loss-of-function mutations in the (RHUC type 1) or (RHUC type 2) genes, encoding urate transporters URAT1 and GLUT9, respectively, that reabsorb urate in the renal proximal tubule. The characteristics of this disorder are low serum urate levels, high renal fractional excretion of urate, and occasional severe complications such as nephrolithiasis and exercise-induced acute renal failure. In this study, we report two Spanish (Caucasian) siblings and a Pakistani boy with clinical characteristics compatible with RHUC.

Objective: Tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have successfully changed the natural course of chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). Although they are highly effective drugs, their clinical benefit is conditioned by adherence. This study aims to analyse the adherence of CML patients treated with TKIs and to identify the main factors influencing their adherence to TKIs treatment.

The klotho and fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF-23) pathway is implicated in cardiovascular pathophysiology. This substudy aimed to assess the changes in klotho and FGF-23 levels 1-month after dapagliflozin in patients with stable heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). The study included 29 patients (32.

Distal motor neuropathies (dHMN) are an heterogenous group of diseases characterized by progressive muscle weakness affecting predominantly the distal muscles of the lower and upper limbs. Our aim was to study the imaging features and pattern of muscle involvement in muscle magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in dHMN patients of suspected genetic origin (dHMN). We conducted a retrospective study collecting clinical, genetic and muscle imaging data.

Background And Objective: The cost of treating cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) in Spain is unknown. With the advent of new treatments, it is more important than ever to gain an accurate picture of the true costs involved. The MICADOS study had 2 primary objectives: 1)to evaluate the impact of CTCL on patient quality of life, and 2)to evaluate the costs associated with the disease.

Sarcopenia and malnutrition have been associated in the elderly population with a poor prognosis in wound healing and with other adverse events, such as institutionalization or functional impairment. However, it is not known how these factors influence the prognosis of diabetic foot in the elderly. To answer this question, a prospective observational study of 45 patients over 65 years of age admitted with diagnoses of diabetic foot in a tertiary hospital has been conducted.

Circulating Klotho levels are significantly reduced in subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and in kidney disease patients. In this work, the relationship between Klotho levels and the coronary artery disease (CAD) burden in subjects with T2DM and preserved kidney function was analyzed. For this, we performed a cross-sectional case-control study involving 133 subjects with T2DM and 200 age-, sex- and CAD-incidence-matched, non-diabetic patients undergoing non-emergency diagnostic coronary angiography.

Introduction: Sodium-glucose type 2 cotransporter inhibitors (SGLT2-I) have shown solid benefits in reducing cardiovascular mortality and admissions for heart failure in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and cardiovascular disease. However, no specific studies exist in patients with high-risk coronary artery disease (CAD).
Methods: Single-center, retrospective, observational study including patients with T2DM and a new diagnosis of extensive CAD (defined as left main disease or three main coronary vessel disease).

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic meant measures had to be taken that implied the neglect of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D).
Objectives: to explore the impact of care discontinuity on patients with T2D in Primary Care (PC) centres, who did not have a specific action protocol for them, during 2020 and 2021.
Design: Multicenter retrospective observational study.

Background: Sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy has recently been accepted to evaluate nodal status in endometrial cancer at early stage, which is key to tailoring adjuvant treatments. Our aim was to evaluate the national implementation of SLN biopsy in terms of accuracy to detect nodal disease in a clinical setting and oncologic outcomes according to the volume of nodal disease.
Patients And Methods: A total of 29 Spanish centers participated in this retrospective, multicenter registry including patients with endometrial adenocarcinoma at preoperative early stage who had undergone SLN biopsy between 2015 and 2021.

Introduction: The association between viral infections and pulmonary exacerbations in children with cystic fibrosis (cwCF) is well established. However, the question of whether cwCF are at a higher risk of COVID-19 or its adverse consequences remains controversial.
Methods: We conducted an observational, multicenter, cross-sectional study of cwCF infected by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) between March 2020 and June 2022, (first to sixth COVID-19 pandemic waves) in Spain.
