Objectives: This study aimed to examine the concordance of coronary computed tomographic angiography (CCTA) assessment of coronary anatomy and invasive coronary angiography (ICA) as the reference standard in patients enrolled in the ISCHEMIA (International Study of Comparative Health Effectiveness with Medical and Invasive Approaches).
Background: Performance of CCTA compared with ICA has not been assessed in patients with very high burdens of stress-induced ischemia and a high likelihood of anatomically significant coronary artery disease (CAD). A blinded CCTA was performed after enrollment to exclude patients with left main (LM) disease or no obstructive CAD before randomization to an initial conservative or invasive strategy, the latter guided by ICA and optimal revascularization.

The development of new drugs for musculoskeletal regeneration purposes has attracted much attention in the last decades. In this work, we present three novel vitamin B9 (folic acid)-derivatives bearing divalent cations (ZnFO, MgFO and MnFO), providing their synthesis mechanism and physicochemical characterization. In addition, a strong emphasis has been placed on evaluating their biological properties (along with our previously reported SrFO) using human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSC).

The biological mechanisms involved in aseptic loosening include inflammation-associated and bone resorption-associated processes. Coordinated cellular actions result in biochemical imbalances with devastating consequences for the joint. Given that this condition is not known for showing systemic signs, we investigated whether circulating levels of inflammation-related proteins are altered in patients with aseptic loosening.

Unlabelled: Dysnatremia is associated with increased mortality in patients with community-acquired pneumonia. SARS-COV2 (Severe-acute-respiratory syndrome caused by Coronavirus-type 2) pneumonia can be fatal. The aim of this study was to ascertain whether admittance dysnatremia is associated with mortality, sepsis, or intensive therapy (IT) in patients hospitalized with SARS-COV2 pneumonia.

Introduction: With increasing survival from bladder cancer, quality of life, should be one of the main goals following radical cystectomy and bilateral pelvic lymph node dissection (PLND). This techniqueis associated with significant morbidity, which may have a critical effect on quality of life. Concerns about functional outcomes, such as continence, potency, and sexual function in women, play a role in decision making for urologists and younger patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer.

Aims: First, to compare clinical features and biological disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (bDMARDs) response in patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) and axial psoriatic arthritis (axPsA). Second, to identify possible predictors of treatment response in both entities.
Methods: One-year follow-up, observational, single-center study including all patients with axSpA or axPsA who started bDMARDs therapy.

Abnormal activation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway is common in many types of solid cancers. Likewise, a large proportion of cancer patients have vitamin D deficiency. In line with these observations, Wnt/β-catenin signaling and 1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH)D), the active vitamin D metabolite, usually have opposite effects on cancer cell proliferation and phenotype.

The measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak have no precedent in the recent history of many countries. Around 2,000 million people in the world are in isolation or quarantine, and gatherings of people have been expressly banned in many countries. In Spain, this prohibition affects workplaces, schools, and the national health system, where most of the healthcare is being provided either on the phone or online.

Background: In the ART-PRO pilot trial there were no virological failures through 48 weeks of treatment with dolutegravir plus lamivudine in suppressed individuals with and without archived lamivudine resistance-associated mutations (RAMs) detected through next-generation sequencing (NGS) but without evidence of lamivudine RAMs in baseline proviral DNA population sequencing.
Objectives: To present 96 week results from ART-PRO.
Methods: Open-label, single-arm pilot trial.

Background: Frequently used reference values for clinical exercise testing have been derived from non-random samples and some with poorly defined maximal criteria. Our objective was to obtain population based reference values for peak oxygen uptake (V˙O) and work rate (WR) for cardiopulmonary exercise testing in a representative sample of Caucasian Spanish men and women.
Methods: 182 men and women, 20-85 years old, were included and exercised on cycle-ergometer to exhaustion.

Objective: We present an update of the Spanish Society of Neurology's recommendations for prevention of both primary and secondary stroke in patients with dyslipidaemia.
Development: We performed a systematic review to evaluate the main aspects of the management of dyslipidaemias in primary and secondary stroke prevention and establish a series of recommendations.
Conclusions: In primary prevention, the patient's vascular risk should be determined in order to define target values for low-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

The presence of rheumatoid factor (RF) or anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) autoantibodies contributes to the current rheumatoid arthritis (RA) classification criteria. These criteria involve stratification on antibody levels, which limits reproducibility, and underperform in the RA patients without RF and anti-CCP. Here, we have explored if two anti-acetylated peptide antibodies (AAPA), anti-acetylated lysine (AcLys) and anti-acetylated ornithine (AcOrn), could improve the performance of the current criteria.

Objectives: Cochlear implants (CIs) are a well-known hearing restoration option for patients with vestibular schwannoma (VS) in cases of neurofibromatosis type-2 and, more recently, for patients with sporadic VS. One of the main limitations when performing CI during VS surgery is the capability to preserve the acoustic nerve (AN) anatomically and functionally. Significant efforts have been directed toward developing an intraoperative testing method for monitoring the AN function to determine if, after tumor removal, it is suitable for conducting stimuli delivered by a CI.

Objectives: The World Health Organization recommends routinely screening HIV-infected patients with CD4 T-cell counts <100/μL for cryptococcal infection to prevent cryptococcal meningitis (CM), based on studies in Sub-Saharan Africa where the prevalence of positive cryptococcal antigen (CrAg+) is ≥ 3% in this subgroup. Data about such prevalence in Spain are unavailable and rare in other European countries. Thus, the Spanish AIDS Study Group guidelines do not recommend routinely screening.

We aimed to identify the key players in the prothrombotic profile of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) not mediated by antiphospholipid antibodies, as well as the potential utility of global coagulation tests to characterize hemostasis in these patients. Patients with SLE without antiphospholipid antibodies and without signs of thrombosis were included. The kinetics of clot formation were determined by ROTEM.

Midkine (MDK) might mediate the proangiogenic effect of intermittent hypoxia (IH) in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and cutaneous melanoma (CM). We compare circulating MDK in CM patients with and without OSA, and their relationship with tumor aggressiveness, while exploring in vitro effects of soluble MDK on human lymphatic endothelial (HLEC) and melanoma cell proliferation. In 360 CM patients, sleep studies and MDK serum level measurements were performed.

Background: Ten years after their availability, thrombopoietin receptor agonists (TPO-RA) have heralded a paradigm shift in the treatment of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). This study was aimed to analyze the implementation of current recommendations in the standard practice of adult ITP patients, and how age may influence those changes.
Methods: We included 121 adult patients (> 65 years, n = 54; younger individuals, n = 67) who initiated treatment with TPO-RA between January 2012 and December 2014.
