Aging is one of the main factors associated with cardiovascular diseases. Androgens exert beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system and testosterone (TES) replacement therapy improves cardiometabolic risk factors. However, TES is contraindicated in patients with prostate cancer due to its proliferative effects on prostatic tumor cells.

Primary hyperaldosteronism (PH) is the most common cause of secondary hypertension (HTN) and is associated with a higher cardiometabolic risk than essential HTN. Nevertheless, PH remains clearly underdiagnosed. An early diagnosis and adequate treatment of this disease are essential to reduce the cardiometabolic morbimortality associated with aldosterone excess.

Background And Purpose: Despite that incorporating antiangiogenic in combination with immune-checkpoint inhibitors as the standard first-line treatment for advanced clear cell renal cell cancer (ccRCC) yields promising outcomes, these regimens often lead to significant toxicity. However, a subgroup of patients has shown responsiveness to VEGFR tyrosine-kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in monotherapy, leading to the question of whether employing combination therapies can significantly enhance overall survival in all patients over monotherapy. Thus, we aim to identify gene expression signatures that can predict TKI response within subpopulations that might benefit from single-agent therapies, to minimize unnecessary exposure to combination therapies and their associated toxicities, as well as to discover new potential therapeutic targets to improve ccRCC treatment.

Invasion of some cancer cells into surrounding tissues requires traversing dense environments, although the precise mechanisms are unclear. In this issue of Developmental Cell, Driscoll et al. (2024) show that amoeboid melanoma cells create tunnels via bleb-driven abrasion of the extracellular matrix (ECM) without proteolytic degradation, a mechanism coined "worrying.

Background: Pulmonary embolism (PE) treatment is based on risk stratification according to European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines. However, emerging therapies in acute PE may require a more granular risk classification. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to propose a new RIsk claSsification Adapting the SCAI shock stages to right ventricular failure due to acute PE (RISA-PE).

Introduction And Objectives: By 2022, 9 centers had been accredited by the Spanish Society of Cardiology for the atrial fibrillation (AF) process. Our objective was to evaluate the performance of these centers based on the quality indicators (QIs) proposed by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) in 2020.
Methods: Adults with AF who were attended in the cardiology departments of participating centers during the second week of May 2019 were included in a retrospective registry (n=797, age 72±11 years, 60% male).
Background: Long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFAs) have proven to be essential for development in preterm infants and have been studied for their capacity to reduce inflammation and infection rates, including sepsis in enteral and parenteral nutrition. The aim of this review and meta-analysis is to gather the information available on this subject to determine if n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids can reduce sepsis incidence in preterm infants.
Methods: This systematic review was conducted by searching in the databases MEDLINE (via PubMed), ISI-Web of Science, EMBASE, SCOPUS, SciELO, and Cochrane Library databases.

Purpose: To evaluate atezolizumab combined with platinum-based chemotherapy (CT) followed by maintenance niraparib for late-relapsing recurrent ovarian cancer.
Methods: The multicenter placebo-controlled double-blind randomized phase III ENGOT-OV41/GEICO 69-O/ANITA trial (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT03598270) enrolled patients with measurable high-grade serous, endometrioid, or undifferentiated recurrent ovarian cancer who had received one or two previous CT lines (most recent including platinum) and had a treatment-free interval since last platinum (TFIp) of >6 months.

Background: The phase III PRIMA/ENGOT-OV26/GOG-3012 trial met its primary endpoint. Niraparib first-line maintenance significantly prolonged progression-free survival (PFS) among patients with newly diagnosed advanced ovarian cancer that responded to first-line platinum-based chemotherapy, regardless of homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) status. Final overall survival (OS) results are reported.

Non-communicable diseases (cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes, etc.) are the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 71 % of global deaths. The risk factors for all of them are closely linked to lifestyle and in particular to diet.

Adolescents with hemophilia are a patient population with special requirements, having to manage their condition alongside the typical challenges of adolescence. Given the psychosocial impact of hemophilia and a desire to fit in with non-hemophilic peers, they may perceive treatment as more of a burden than a benefit. This can result in low adherence and a high risk of hemophilia-related complications.

The fulfillment of rights to maternal healthcare is a key factor for the wellbeing of women. However, there is a lack of an instrument to ascertain the experience of women during maternity to enable adequate monitoring. The aim of this study was to validate a new instrument to measure women's perception of the fulfillment of rights during healthcare in pregnancy and childbirth and immediately postpartum.

Non-immune hydrops fetalis (NIHF) is a rare entity characterized by excessive accumulation of fluid within the fetal extravascular compartments and body cavities. Here we present two intrauterine fetal demises with NIHF presenting with oligohydramnios, cystic hygroma, pleural effusion, and generalized hydrops with predominance of subcutaneous edema. The fetuses also presented with ascites, severe and precocious IUGR and skeletal anomalies.

Background: Telemonitoring for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has not consistently demonstrated superiority over standard care; however, noninferiority may be an acceptable outcome if remote care proves to be more efficient.
Objective: This study aims to compare the remission time and quality of life of patients with active IBD managed through standard care versus the TECCU (Telemonitoring of Crohn Disease and Ulcerative Colitis) app.
Methods: A 2-arm, randomized, multicenter trial with a noninferiority design was conducted across 24 hospitals in Spain.
