Background: Cardiogenic shock (CS) complicates Takotsubo syndrome (TTS), significantly affecting patient outcomes. Since avoiding catecholamines, particularly inotropic agents, is recommended in TTS, temporary mechanical circulatory support (MCS) shows promise as a bridge to recovery. However, there is no prospective data on its use in TTS.

Background: Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is a form of transient left ventricular (LV) dysfunction that usually resolves within days to weeks.
Objectives: We aimed to assess the predictors and prognostic impact of time-to-LV recovery after TTS.
Methods: Prospective serial imaging data from the nationwide, multicenter RETAKO (REgistry on TAKOtsubo Syndrome) were comprehensively reviewed to assess the timing of LV recovery.

Background: Invasive Mechanical Ventilation (IMV) in Intensive Care Units (ICU) significantly increases the risk of Ventilator-Induced Lung Injury (VILI), necessitating careful management of mechanical power (MP). This study aims to develop a real-time predictive model of MP utilizing Artificial Intelligence to mitigate VILI.
Methodology: A retrospective observational study was conducted, extracting patient data from Clinical Information Systems from 2018 to 2022.

Background & Aims: The impact of patient sex on the presentation of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has been poorly evaluated. Our aims were to assess potential disparities in IBD phenotype and progression between sexes.
Methods: We performed an observational multicenter study that included patients with Crohn's disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis from the Spanish Estudio Nacional en Enfermedad Inflamatoria intestinal sobre Determinantes genéticos y Ambientales registry.

Background: Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) can be classified into sub-phenotypes according to different inflammatory/clinical status. Prognostic enrichment was achieved by grouping patients into hypoinflammatory or hyperinflammatory sub-phenotypes, even though the time of analysis may change the classification according to treatment response or disease evolution. We aimed to evaluate when patients can be clustered in more than 1 group, and how they may change the clustering of patients using data of baseline or day 3, and the prognosis of patients according to their evolution by changing or not the cluster.

Background: Age is a major risk factor for venous thromboembolism (VTE), yet patients aged ≥90 years are under-represented in clinical trials of anticoagulant therapy. The objectives were to describe and compare patient clinical characteristics, treatments, and outcomes (VTE recurrence, bleeding, and mortality) during the first 3 months of anticoagulation between VTE patients aged ≥90 years and those aged <90 years.
Methods: We analyzed data from the Registro Informatizado Enfermedad TromboEmbὀlica (RIETE), an ongoing global observational registry of patients with objectively confirmed acute VTE.

Introduction And Objectives: Vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 have been a major scientific and medical achievement in the control of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, very infrequent cases of inflammatory heart disease have been described as adverse events, leading to uncertainty in the scientific community and in the general population.
Methods: The Vaccine-Carditis Registry has included all cases of myocarditis and pericarditis diagnosed within 30 days after COVID-19 vaccination since August 1, 2021 in 29 centers throughout the Spanish territory.

Fungal infections have become a common threat in Intensive Care Units (ICU). The epidemiology of invasive fungal diseases (IFD) has been extensively studied in patients severely immunosuppressed over the last 20-30 years, however, the type of patients that have been admitted to hospitals in the last decade has made the healthcare system and ICU a different setting with more vulnerable hosts. Patients admitted to an ICU tend to have older age and higher severity of disease.

Endothelial integrity maintains microcirculatory flow and tissue oxygen delivery. The endothelial glycocalyx is involved in cell signalling, coagulation and inflammation. Our ability to treat critically ill and septic patients effectively is determined by understanding the underpinning biological mechanisms.
