We present a 67-year-old male with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) who developed left lower lobe atelectasis and respiratory failure caused by a large pneumoperitoneum after gastrostomy placement. The patient was successfully managed with paracentesis, postural measures, and continued application of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV). There is no clear evidence that links the use of NIPPV with an increased risk of pneumoperitoneum.

Daratumumab is a human CD38-targeted monoclonal antibody approved as monotherapy for heavily pretreated relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma. At 15 centers across Spain, intravenous daratumumab (16 mg/kg) was administered to 73 patients who had ≥3 prior lines of therapy, including a proteasome inhibitor and an immunomodulatory drug, or who were double refractory to both.

We analyze outcomes of patients who underwent myeloablative umbilical cord blood or haploidentical hemopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in Spain. Fifty-one patients underwent single umbilical cord blood transplantation supported by a third party donor (Haplo-Cord) between 1999 and 2012, and 36 patients received an haploidentical HSCT with post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PTCY-haplo) between 2012 and 2014 in GETH centers.
