Dementia is characterized by the presence of progressive cognitive and behavioral symptoms which affect normal functioning. With the purpose of determining if there are any changes related to patients’ religiosity due to dementia, we developed a questionnaire aiming to evaluate changes pre and post diagnostic. In effect, we observed that patients with dementia might experience a reduction of the importance given to religion and its associated practices with the disease progression.

Introduction: Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) is an epileptic syndrome with onset in childhood and adolescence with myoclonus, absences, and generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Reflex stimuli such as sensitivity to light or photosensitivity, eyelid opening and closing, and praxis induction produce epileptiform discharges and seizures. These reflex triggers are not all systematically studied.

Intestinal transplant (ITx) rejection lacks a reliable noninvasive biomarker and rejection surveillance relies on serial endoscopies and mucosal biopsies followed by histologic assessment. Endoscopic biopsies are also essential for identifying other ITx-related complications such as infectious, allergic, and inflammatory graft enteritis as well as post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease or graft versus host disease. In spite of its central role in ITx, published guidelines on endoscopy and biopsy are lacking and significant variability between centers in terms of timing and technical performance exists.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the incidence and severity of COVID-19 among patients receiving home parenteral nutrition (HPN) for chronic intestinal failure over a year-long observation period from March 2020 to March 2021.
  • Out of 4680 patients from 68 centers across 23 countries, the cumulative incidence of COVID-19 infection was 9.6%, with 55.1% of patients providing COVID-related data, revealing varying rates of infection severity.
  • Results indicated a higher incidence and severity of infection among deceased patients, and significant proportions of the cohort were unvaccinated or had unknown vaccination statuses; 42.8% of deaths in infected individuals were attributed to COVID-19.

Short bowel syndrome is a low-incidence disorder among pediatric patients, but it is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. Management of these patients by an interdisciplinary team of experts focused on intestinal rehabilitation improves short- and long-term outcomes. Available resources for treatment include teduglutide, a glucagon-like peptide type 2 (GLP-2) analog made by recombinant techniques.

Pronation of the first metatarsal is a risk factor for the formation and progression of the hallux valgus deformity. Recently, Yamaguchi et al published a study that showed how the round sign increases on digitally reconstructed radiography taken from a CT scan when pronation is applied. In this study, the shape of the lateral edge of the first metatarsal head was evaluated on weightbearing dorsoplantar radiographs.

To achieve WHO's goal of eliminating hepatitis C virus (HCV), innovative strategies must be designed to diagnose and treat more patients. Therefore, we aimed to describe an implementation strategy to identify patients with HCV who were lost to follow-up (LTFU) and offer them re-linkage to HCV care. We conducted an implementation study utilizing a strategy to contact patients with HCV who were not under regular follow-up in 13 countries from Latin America.
