Context: There are no data on mortality of acromegaly diagnosed in older individuals.

Objective: This work aimed to compare clinical characteristics, growth hormone-related comorbidities, therapeutic approaches, and mortality rate of patients diagnosed before or after 2010 and to assess overall mortality rate compared with the general Spanish population.

Methods: A retrospective evaluation was conducted among Spanish tertiary care centers of 118 patients diagnosed with acromegaly at age 65 or older.

The aim was to identify patient- and disease-related characteristics predicting moderate-to-high disease activity in recent-onset psoriatic arthritis (PsA). We performed a multicenter observational prospective study (2-year follow-up, regular annual visits) in patients aged ≥18 years who fulfilled the CASPAR criteria and had less than 2 years since the onset of symptoms. The moderate-to-high activity of PsA was defined as DAPSA > 14.

Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is the mainstay treatment for metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC). The addition of docetaxel or new hormone therapies (abiraterone, apalutamide, or enzalutamide) improves overall survival and is currently the standard of care. However, the decision on the specific regimen to accompany ADT should be discussed with the patient, considering factors such as possible associated toxicities, duration of treatment, comorbidities, patient preferences, as there is no sufficient evidence to recommend one regimen over the other in most cases.

April 2023

Translational Research in Respiratory Medicine, University Hospital Arnau de Vilanova and Santa Maria, IRBLleida, Lleida, Spain; CIBER of Respiratory Diseases (CIBERES), Institute of Health Carlos III, Madrid, Spain. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Critical COVID-19 survivors have a significant risk of respiratory issues, leading to a study that identifies factors linked to poor lung function and CT scan abnormalities in these patients.
  • The study involved 1,327 patients from 52 Spanish intensive care units, examining their health data at hospital admission and follow-up, which occurred around 3.57 months after discharge.
  • Results showed many patients had reduced lung capacity and CT scans revealed issues like pulmonary infiltrates and fibrosis, with age, chronic lung disease, and mechanical ventilation duration being key predictors of these complications.

The diagnosis of Lyme borreliosis (LB) is based on the epidemiological history, clinical manifestations and microbiological findings in the early disseminated and late phases of the disease. Related to this fact, microbiological diagnostic techniques have recently appeared. Far from facilitating the diagnosis and the clinical-therapeutic management of LB patients, they are generating confusion.

Background: To evaluate gender differences in disease activity and health status (HS) in patients with radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (r-axSpA)/ankylosing spondylitis (AS).

Methods: Ancillary analysis of the MIDAS study, an observational, non-interventional, cross-sectional and retrospective multicenter nationwide study to assess disease activity and its relationship with HS in clinical practice. Adult patients with AS diagnosis, fulfilling ASAS and modified New York criteria, treated for ≥3 months upon study inclusion according to clinical practice were included.

Diagnostic stability in substance-induced psychosis.

Rev Psiquiatr Salud Ment (Engl Ed)

December 2022

Salud Mental, Biocruces Health Research Institute, Barakaldo, Vizcaya, Spain; CSM Adicciones J. Ajuriaguerra - Hospital de Día Manuene, Red Salud Mental Bizkaia, Bilbao, Spain.

Introduction: Substance-induced psychosis (SIP) is the name given to a psychosis that starts in the context of substance abuse but persists for days and weeks with no substance use. There is as yet little knowledge about the longitudinal course of this psychosis, which suggests that significant numbers go on to be diagnosed with a severe mental disorder (SMD). The objective of this study was to analyse the progression of SIP to SMD in our environment and the possible factors that may be involved in that conversion.

Factors associated with therapeutic response in acromegaly diagnosed in the elderly in Spain.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

October 2022

Endocrinology and Nutrition Service, Germans Trias Hospital and Research Institute, Autonomous University of Barcelona, Badalona, Spain.

Context: Some reports suggest that acromegaly in elderly patients has a more benign clinical behavior and could have a better response to first-generation long-acting somatostatin receptor ligands (SRL). However, there is no specific therapeutic protocol for this special subgroup of patients.

Objective: This study aimed at identifying predictors of response to SRL in elderly patients.
