Objective: Several studies have reported that a higher degree of hemoconcentration in patients admitted for the treatment of acute heart failure (HF) constitutes a favorable prognostic factor in the year following the index episode. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether the highest degree of hemoconcentration at 3 months after admission for HF is also a prognostic factor for mortality and/or readmission in the 12 months after admission.

Patients And Method: The hemoconcentration group was the upper quartile of the sample distributed according to hemoglobin increase at month 3 after discharge with respect to hemoglobin at the time of admission for HF in a multicenter prospective cohort of 1,659 subjects with HF.

Adiposity and physical activity are modifiable factors that could be important determinants of breast cancer (BC) prognosis through their effects on endogenous reproductive hormones, chronic inflammation and metabolic changes. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate whether offering lifestyle interventions to BC survivors could affect the levels of certain biomarkers involved in these mechanisms. We designed a pre-post intervention study offering diet and exercise sessions over 12 weeks to 42 overweight/obese BC survivors.

Purpose: Despite improved acute treatment and new tools to facilitate recovery, most patients have motor deficits after stroke, often causing disability. However, motor impairment varies considerably among patients, and recovery in the acute/subacute phase is difficult to predict using clinical measures alone, particularly in severely impaired patients. Accurate early prediction of recovery would help rationalize rehabilitation goals and improve the design of trials testing strategies to facilitate recovery.
