The mitochondrial A3243G mutation of the tRNA(Leu) has been described in pedigrees with maternally inherited diabetes mellitus and deafness. Ten diabetic patients with sensorineural deafness were studied. Polymerase chain reaction and enzyme restriction analysis with Apa I were performed.
