In an attempt to document the efficacy of potassium citrate in stone formation, 57 patients with active lithiasis (2 or more stones during the preceding 2 years) and hypocitraturia were randomly allocated into 2 groups, with 1 group taking 30 to 60 mEq. potassium citrate daily in wax matrix tablet formation and the other group receiving placebo. In 18 patients receiving potassium citrate for 3 years stone formation significantly declined after treatment from 1.

The ELISA test, using excretory-secretory antigen from larvae II of Toxocara canis, was applied on 1018 sera (793 from adults and 225 from pediatrics) distributed in: A) patients with an hypereosinophilia where the ethiological agent was undetermined (99); B) patients with ocular complaints compatible with an ocular toxocariasis (116); C) patients with hidatidosis (97); D) patient with other non-toxocaral helminthiasis (34); E) patients with other clinical features (468) and F) healthy donors (204). Over 3,6% of sera showed elevated levels of antibodies reacting with T. canis antigen.

Thirty-four patients with locally advanced or metastatic esophageal cancer were treated with cisplatin 35 mg/m2/day x 3 days in bolus, plus bleomycin 15 mg/day x 3 days, as an 18 h infusion, every 21-28 days. Twenty-nine are evaluable for response. Objective response was seen in 15 (52%, 95% confidence limits 35-69%) patients.
