Purpose: Carotid artery stenting (CAS) appears as a promising alternative treatment to carotid endarterectomy for radiation therapy (RT)-induced carotid stenosis. However, this is based on a poor level of evidence studies (small sample size, primarily single institution reports, few long-term data). The purpose of this study was to report the long-term outcomes of a multicentric series of CAS for RT-induced stenosis.

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, relapsing, inflammatory skin disease. Therapeutic patient education (TPE) has been demonstrated to be effective in AD in reducing disease severity and improving coping and quality of life.
Objectives: To describe the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of children and adolescents with AD who had attended TPE sessions, as well as the characteristics of their parents, and compare them with those who did not attend TPE.

Cancer development and progression is often associated with inflammation. Late diagnosis of inflammation that directly leads to the development of neoplasm-cancer is associated with a reduction in the chance of successful treatment or is associated with therapeutic difficulties. A panel of chromogenic substrates was used for the qualitative determination of the specific activity of enzymes in urine of patients with confirmed inflammatory reaction and/or epithelial neoplasms in particular tumours at various stages of development.

Bladder cancer (BC) is the sixth common cancer in the world, characterized by high recurrent rate and poor prognosis. In most cases is asymptomatic and it can take years until symptoms develop. What is more, diagnosed patients need regular re-examinations which are invasive and expensive.

The risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) is higher in myeloma patients receiving immunomodulatory compounds. A VTE prophylaxis using low-molecular-weight heparin or aspirin is therefore proposed. Apixaban is an oral direct anti-Xa.

Objective: The purpose of this article is to present the specific public health indicators recently developed by EUROCAT that aim to summarize important aspects of the public health impact of congenital anomalies in a few quantitative measures.
Methods: The six indicators are: (1) congenital anomaly perinatal mortality, (2) congenital anomaly prenatal diagnosis prevalence, (3) congenital anomaly termination of pregnancy, (4) Down syndrome livebirth prevalence, (5) congenital anomaly pediatric surgery, and (6) neural tube defects (NTD) total prevalence. Data presented for this report pertained to all cases (livebirths, fetal deaths, or stillbirths after 20 weeks of gestation and terminations of pregnancy for fetal anomaly [TOPFA]) of congenital anomaly from 27 full member registries of EUROCAT that could provide data for at least 3 years during the period 2004 to 2008.

Low milk intakes hamper bone mineral acquisition during adolescence, especially in European girls. We hypothesized that ethnic-specific polymorphisms of the vitamin D receptor gene promoter (VDRp) influence this milk/bone association. We evaluated lumbar spine BMC and BMD, milk/dairy products and calcium intakes, markers of P-Ca metabolism, and VDRp polymorphisms at the Cdx-2 binding (rs11568820) and -1012 (rs4516035) loci in 117 healthy European peri- and postmenarcheal girls (14.

US remains the key imaging technique for prenatal screening of CNS pathology. However, MR imaging of the fetal brain is a powerful tool to further characterize CNS anomalies, especially during the third trimester. The prognosis of CNS anomalies detected at fetal MR imaging is not always known.

The management of osteogenic sarcoma in children has made a fantastic step on the survival rate, but there still remains unexpected late metastatic recurrence even in initially good responders to chemotherapy and lower survival rate in the bad responder group. Therefore, the research on etiology and on the understanding and rating of oncologic power of the tumoral cells as well as other kinds of treatment (vaccine, immunotherapy, and other types of chemotherapy) must be increased. The initial function after replacement is good and is often excellent but increasing deterioration is noticed during each follow-up evaluation.

In an attempt to identify factors determining central venous catheter-related complications in newborns and infants, 587 cases have been retrospectively analyzed. Attention has been paid to the influence of the incidence of babies' body weight, site of insertion, and technique of placement of the catheter and the material used, ie, silicone (SI) or polyurethane (PU). Overall complications occurred in 28% of the catheters with 2 deaths due to cardiac tamponade.

Used in over 600 cases, the posterior Cotrel-Dubousset spinal instrumentation device has become the device of choice. This technique allows the most effective correction for all kinds of spinal deformities. It requires lengthy preoperative planning and is a technically demanding surgical procedure; however, because of its versatility it can be adapted to most spinal deformities.

Our realistic definition of pelvic obliquity is: any fixed malalignment existing between the spinal and pelvic structure in the frontal, sagittal and horizontal plane. The pelvic unit--with rare exceptions--must be considered one unique vertebra, an intercalary bone between the trunk and lower limbs. Like a structural vertebra in a scoliotic spine, the pelvic unit can be distorted in structure.
