Background: Patients with Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) who develop cardiogenic shock may present with left ventricular outflow tract obstruction (LVOTO). The prognosis and treatment of this population have not been defined in previous studies. The aim of this study is to describe the clinical presentation, management, evolution and prognosis of a subgroup of patients with TTS and cardiogenic shock according to whether they present with LVOTO or not.

The aim of this substudy of the EXAMINATION-EXTEND was to analyze 10-year outcomes according to the patient's age at the time of the first ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Of 1,498 patients with STEMI included in the EXAMINATION-EXTEND study, those with a previous history of coronary ischemic even or ischemic stroke were excluded from this analysis. The remaining 1,375 patients were divided into 4 age groups: <55, 55 to 65, 65 to 75, and >75 years.

The objective of this analysis from the EXAMINATION-EXTEND (10-Years Follow-Up of the EXAMINATION trial) trial was to compare 10-year outcomes of patients with ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction with and without diabetes. Methods and Results Of the study population, 258 patients had diabetes and 1240 did not.

Background: Short-term outcomes following ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in women are worse than in men, with a higher mortality rate. It is unknown whether sex plays a role in very long term outcomes.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess whether very long term outcomes following STEMI treatment are influenced by sex.

Background: Outcomes data for a durable-polymer everolimus-eluting stent (EES) at extended long-term follow-up in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) are unknown.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the 10-year outcomes of patients enrolled in the EXAMINATION (A Clinical Evaluation of Everolimus Eluting Coronary Stents in the Treatment of Patients With ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction) trial.
Methods: The EXAMINATION-EXTEND (10-Years Follow-Up of the EXAMINATION Trial) study is an investigator-driven 10-year follow-up of the EXAMINATION trial, which randomly assigned 1,498 patients with STEMI in a 1:1 ratio to receive either EES (n = 751) or bare-metal stents (n = 747).
Background: Incidence of a second testicular tumor is higher in patients diagnosed with testicular cancer than in the general population. As incidence of unilateral germ cell cancer is increasing worldwide and most of these patients are cured, a growing number of patients at risk of developing a contralateral testis cancer is expected.
Objective: To analyze clinical and histological characteristics, as well as the absolute and cumulative incidence of a second testicular cancer in a cohort of 3,834 patients diagnosed with germ cell testicular cancer between I/1994 and I/2018 in 18 referral hospitals of the Spanish Germ Cell Cancer Group.

Introduction: The most suitable treatment in most early-stage lung cancer patients is surgical resection. Despite previously assessing each patient's status being relevant to detect possible complications inherent to surgery, no consensus has been reached on which factors are "high risk" in such patients. Our study aimed to analyse the morbidity and the mortality incidence associated with this surgery in our setting with a multicentre study and to detect risk parameters.

Objectives: To analyse the sensitivity, specificity and positive predictive (PPV) and negative predictive (NPV) values of each measure of the Barthel index (BI) compared with the full questionnaire for polypathological patients (PPPs).
Methods: Multicentre cross-sectional study. We considered 2 cut-off points for the BI (≥90 points for screening frailty and <60 points for diagnosing severe dependence).

Proposal: The aim of this study was to examine the association between the consumption of total and specific types of dairy products and the risk of incident cataracts in an elderly Mediterranean population at high cardiovascular risk.
Methods: We prospectively analyzed 5860 subjects from the PREvención con DIeta MEDiterránea (PREDIMED) Study. The time to cataract surgery was calculated as the time between recruitment and the date of the surgery, last visit of the follow-up, date of death, or until the end of the study.

Immunological characterization of HIV-infected subjects with low CD4-recovery (LR-subjects) has been extensively performed after a variable period of combined antiretroviral therapy (cART). We now explore immunological alterations present before the cART onset. In a case-control study, we selected pre-cART samples of HIV-subjects with and without low CD4-recovery after cART (n = 21 per group).

Bacteria with elevated mutation rates represent a risk factor for treatment failure and are often found with high frequency in clinical isolates from different sources. How this frequency reflects the among-population and within-population proportion of hypermutators is unknown, despite its importance to the choice of antibiotic therapies that minimize the likelihood of resistance development. Here we screened for hypermutators among the urine of 80 patients with urinary tract infections, at an unprecedented resolution of 24 isolates per sample.

Methods: A multicentre, retrospective chart review of patients prescribed adjunctive rufinamide at seven Spanish epilepsy centres, with assessments at six and 12 months.
Results: We evaluated data from 58 patients (40 male, age range 7-57 years), 25 of whom were diagnosed with LGS, 12 with other epileptic encephalopathies and 21 of whom were diagnosed with focal epilepsies, mainly frontal lobe.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyse factors associated with progression to AIDS/death in severely immunosuppressed HIV-infected patients receiving ART.
Methods: This study included naive patients from the PISCIS Cohort with CD4 <200 cells/mm(3) at enrolment and who initiated ART consisting of two nucleoside analogues plus either a PI or an NNRTI between 1998 and 2011. The PISCIS Cohort is a multicentre, observational study of HIV-infected individuals aged >18 years followed at 14 participating hospitals in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands (Spain).

Background: The elderly (≥75years) constitute a high-risk subset of patients who continue to have a poorer prognosis than non-elderly (<75years). Whether the effects of everolimus-eluting stent (EES) in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) are independent of age has not been reported. We investigated the outcomes following primary PCI (PPCI) with bare-metal stent (BMS) or EES in elderly vs.

Patients at least six months post transplant were treated with deferasirox at a starting dose of 10 mg/kg/day for 52 weeks or until serum ferritin was less than 400 ng/mL on two consecutive occasions. Thirty patients were enrolled and 22 completed the study.

Background: MicroRNAs have emerged as important epigenetic regulators in cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Using an observational meta-analysis design, we previously characterized a gain-of-function microRNA-410 target site polymorphism (rs13702T>C) in the 3'untranslated region of the lipoprotein lipase (LPL) gene. The C allele was associated with lower triglycerides, and this association was modulated by fat intake.

Introduction: Transluminal endoscopic surgery through natural orifices (NOTES) allows intraperitoneal surgical procedures with minimal access to the abdominal wall. Currently it is not yet possible to perform these interventions without laparoscopic assistance, so these procedures are hybrids, fusion of minilaparoscopy and transluminal endoscopic surgery We present a prospective clinical series of patients undergoing surgery for gallstones, with hybrid NOTES transvaginal cholecystectomy with a nursing care plan adapted to this new approach.
Methods: Prospective clinical series of consecutive patients, nonrandomized, with transvaginal NOTES cholecystectomy.
