Introduction: Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is the most frequently performed heart surgery in Brazil. Recent international guidelines recommend that national societies establish a database on the practice and results of CABG. In anticipation of the recommendation, the BYPASS Registry was introduced in 2015.

Objective: To determine the predictors of remission and low disease activity state (LDAS) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
Methods: Three disease activity states were defined: Remission = SLE Disease Activity Index (SLEDAI) = 0 and prednisone ≤ 5 mg/day and/or immunosuppressants (maintenance dose); LDAS = SLEDAI ≤ 4, prednisone ≤ 7.5 mg/day and/or immunosuppressants (maintenance dose); and non-optimally controlled state = SLEDAI > 4 and/or prednisone > 7.

Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their regulators - Tissue Inhibitors of Matrix Metalloproteinases (TIMPs) - participate in extracellular matrix remodeling, fibrosis, and semen liquefaction, as well as to inflammatory activity. Seminal plasma has been shown to contain MMPs (MMP-2 and MMP-9) and TIMPs (TIMP-1 and TIMP-2). Also, a link between MMPs gene expression and excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) has been established.

Acute kidney injury is a common complication of cirrhosis, occurring in up to 20% of patients hospitalized with cirrhosis. This field is rapidly changing, with significant advances in classification, biomarkers and therapy over the last few years. On the behalf of the Brazilian Society of Hepatology, a panel of experts in Hepatology and Nephrology reviewed published evidence to integrate findings and develop the recommendations presented in this manuscript.

Objective: to compare two compression times of the radial artery after coronary angiography with customized compressive dressing regarding the occurrence of hemostasis and vascular complications.
Method: a randomized clinical study was carried out in patients undergoing elective transradial coronary angiography in two study groups: (G30), whose compressive dressing was maintained for 30 minutes, and (G60), whose compressive dressing was maintained for 60 minutes, both until the first evaluation of hemostasis. Variables related to patients, procedure, occurrence of hemostasis, and vascular complications were analyzed.

Mutations causing dysfunction of the tubulins and microtubule-associated proteins, otherwise known as tubulinopathies, are a group of recently described entities, that lead to complex brain malformations. An understanding of the fundamental principles of operation of the cytoskeleton and compounds in particular microtubules, actin, and microtubule-associated proteins, can assist in the interpretation of the imaging findings of tubulinopathies. Somewhat consistent morphological imaging patterns have been described in tubulinopathies such as dysmorphic basal ganglia-the hallmark (found in 75% of cases), callosal dysgenesis, cerebellar hypoplasia/dysplasia, and cortical malformations, most notably lissencephaly.

Background: Direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) permit the use of interferon (IFN)-free regimens to treat hepatitis C (HCV) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on hemo-dialysis (HD) or renal transplant (RTx) recipients, with excellent response rates and safety. However, the occurrence of basal or therapy-induced resistance-associated substitutions (RASs) to DAAs can result in treatment failure. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of RASs to NS3A, NS5A and NS5B inhibitors, and particularly the Q80K polymorphism, in CKD patients on HD and RTx recipients infected with HCV.

Recent reports revealed that lower respiratory driving pressure is associated with better ARDS patients survival during invasive mechanical ventilation and less pulmonary complications in surgical patients and at risk ICU patients without ARDS, makes the best understanding of this subject primordial for the future application of mechanical ventilatory support.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of coronary artery calcium (CAC) as a predictor of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) (fatal or not myocardial infarction, stroke, unstable angina requiring revascularization, and elective myocardial revascularization) events in asymptomatic primary prevention molecularly proven heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) subjects receiving standard lipid-lowering therapy.
Background: FH is associated with premature ASCVD. However, the clinical course of ASCVD in subjects with FH is heterogeneous.

This study is aimed to evaluating the underlying cognitive strategies used during Semantic Verbal Fluency (SVF) performance and comparing the differences between cognitively healthy controls (CHC), amnestic and amnestic-multiple domain mild cognitive impairment (a-MCI and a-md-MCI), Alzheimer's disease (AD), Lewy body dementia (LBD), and behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD). The cross-sectional study comprised 236 participants involving 78 CHC individuals, 33 a-MCI and 48 a-md-MCI, 39 AD, 22 LBD, and 16 bvFTD patients. Scores differed significantly when comparing CHC with dementia groups, showing medium to large variances.

: Since most of the autoimmune diseases (AID) affect mostly women in their fertile years, and fertility is in general preserved, the use of disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) during conception, pregnancy, and lactation has been a matter of concern in the treatment of women affected by AID. : We performed a comprehensive review of the latest and most relevant research papers published in the field and discussed different aspects related to the use of synthetic and biologic DMARDs and immunosuppressants in the preconceptional period, during pregnancy and lactation in AID patients, both in males and females. : Active AID impose an increased risk for adverse maternal and fetal outcomes, such as preeclampsia, miscarriage, intrauterine growth restriction, prematurity, low birth weight, and stillbirth.

Background: Cysteine-rich secretory protein (CRISP-3), a protein involved in inflammatory response, is highly increased in seminal plasma of adolescents with varicocoele and altered semen analysis, but not in adolescents with varicocoele and normal semen. It is not known, however, whether this increased seminal concentration occurs as an acute marker during the initial stages of varicocoele or whether this persists as an altered protein pathway.
Objective: The purpose of this study, thus, was to test the hypothesis that this inflammatory state persists through adulthood and the correction of varicocoele could correct this state, by identifying the levels of CRISP-3 in seminal plasma.

Background: Dementias due to neurodegenerative disorders and more specifically, Alzheimer's disease (AD) are the most frequent of all diseases within the industrialized world. Besides this alarming fact, it is noted too that almost three-quarter of people with AD reside in low or middle- income nations. In recent years, cognitive and behavioral neuroscientists have focused on a possible correlation between environmental agents and genetic risk factors for these dementias.
