Hyperplastic polyps are the most frequent benign epithelial gastric polyps. Although they are considered nonneoplastic, some cases have been reported with focal adenocarcinoma. We present the case of a 59-year-old woman with a sessile lesion of 15 mm on the distal gastric body associated with an extensive atrophic gastritis.

Objective: To compare the effects of extended- versus short-time noninvasive positive pressure ventilation on pulmonary function, tissue perfusion, and clinical outcomes in the early postoperative period following coronary artery bypass surgery in patients with preserved left ventricular function.
Methods: Patients were randomized into two groups according to noninvasive positive pressure ventilation intensity: short-time noninvasive positive pressure ventilation n=20 (S-NPPV) and extended-time noninvasive positive pressure ventilation n=21 (E-NPPV). S-NPPV was applied for 60 minutes during immediate postoperative period and 10 minutes, twice daily, from postoperative days 1-5.

Objective: over the past three decades there has been a social movement in Latin American countries (LAC) to support humanised, physiologic birth. Rates of caesarean section overall in Latin America are approximately 35%, increasing up to 85% in some cases. There are many factors related to poor outcomes with regard to maternal and newborn/infant health in LAC countries.

Background: Maule Cohort (MAUCO), a Chilean cohort study, seeks to analyze the natural history of chronic diseases in the agricultural county of Molina (40,000 inhabitants) in the Maule Region, Chile. Molina´s population is of particular interest because in the last few decades it changed from being undernourished to suffering excess caloric intake, and it currently has the highest national rates of cardiovascular diseases, stomach cancer and gallbladder cancer. Between 2009 and 2011 Molina´s poverty rate dropped from 24.

Adnexal torsion is a gynecological emergency caused by the torsion of the ovary over its pedicle producing lymphatic and venous stasis, later it develops into ischemia and necrosis, when is not treated. Objective: Determine the factors that contribute to the technical difficulty of endoscopic clearance of common bile duct (CBD) stones in patients that underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP).

Purpose: Determine the frequency of gastric cancer and its clinical and pathological characteristics, clinical stages, surgical treatment, morbimortality and survival in a general hospital.
Materials And Methods: Retrospective, descriptive study on 71 consecutive patients diagnosed with gastric cancer at the Santa Rosa Hospital from January 1, 2005 to January 31, 2008.
Results: During the study period, 71 cases of gastric adenocarcinoma were confirmed by histopathology.

Hartmann's Reversal procedure is a major surgical procedure and high morbidity rates has been reported. Many institutions has begun to apply the this procedure by laparoscopy achieving low morbidity rates, due to less eventrations, wound infections and less days of hospitalization, among others. We present a case of locally advance rectal cancer that was formerly submitted to a posterior radical pelvic exenteration that received postoperative chemoradiation, followed by a laparoscopic Hartmann reversal without any complications.

We report a case of thyrotoxicosis in a 37 year old male, in whom hypokalemic periodic paralysis was the first manifestation of the disease. We comment about the differential diagnosis with other types of periodic paralysis, and the importance of a correct diagnosis to avoid permanent muscle damage.
