Introduction: The Biolabo Solea 100 is a fully automated coagulation analyser using an optical system to detect coagulation designed to meet the needs of small- and medium-sized laboratories. This study aimed to evaluate the analytical performance in terms of bias, precision, and interference of the Biolabo Solea 100 coagulometer under routine laboratory conditions. In addition, a comparison was made with Stago STA-R MAX.

Objectives: In an integrated model of social cognition (SC), the theory of mind (ToM), the recognition of behavior in social situations (RBSS), empathy, and sensitivity to moral and conventional rules (SMCR) cooperate in generating mental representations of the interpersonal relationships. The aim of this study was to extend our knowledge of the SC of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) patients by characterizing its various aspects and predictors.

Materials And Methods: Fifty adult patients with TLE and 50 healthy controls were assessed using ToM, RBSS and SMCR neuropsychological tests, the Empathy Questionnaire, and the psychopathology Symptoms Check List 90R (SCL90-R).

Indocyanine Green Fluorescent Angiography During Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy: Preliminary Results.

Introduction: Indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescent angiography has been routinely applied for various laparoscopic procedures to evaluate the tissue blood supply. A promising branch for this technology is represented by bariatric surgery, especially to estimate the risk of gastric leak after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), which seems mainly related to ischemia of the stomach.

Materials And Methods: 43 consecutive patients from January 2018 to March 2019 underwent in our institution LSG with intravenous injection of 5 ml ICG after the realization of gastric tube to evaluate the blood supply of the gastric tube.

Left spermatic vein reflux after varicocele repair predicts pregnancies and live births in subfertile couples.

Purpose: Varicocele repair (VR) is proposed to improve fertility in subfertile couples with a poor semen quality. We explored whether the disappearance of a left continuous spermatic venous reflux (SVR) at scrotal colour-Doppler ultrasound (CDUS), an objective evidence for a VR, is predictive for improved fertility outcome in subfertile couples.

Methods: VR was performed by left internal spermatic vein sclero-embolisation in 88 males seeking a consultation for subfertility.

FDG PET in response evaluation of bulky masses in paediatric Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) patients enrolled in the Italian AIEOP-LH2004 trial.

Purpose: We present the results of an investigation of the role of FDG PET in response evaluation of bulky masses in paediatric patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) enrolled in the Italian AIEOP-LH2004 trial.

Methods: We analysed data derived from 703 patients (388 male, 315 female; mean age 13 years) with HL and enrolled in 41 different Italian centres from March 2004 to September 2012, all treated with the AIEOP-LH2004 protocol. The cohort comprised 309 patients with a bulky mass, of whom 263 were evaluated with FDG PET at baseline and after four cycles of chemotherapy.

Reproductive hormones and sperm parameters after varicocele repair: An observational study.

Varicocele repair (VR) is associated with improved sperm parameters in subfertile patients. We examined the association of the levels of reproductive hormones, scrotal colour Doppler ultrasound (CDU) and seminal parameters in subfertile men, before and after VR. Fifty subfertile males, with left-side varicocele, were enrolled in this retrospective study.

Determination of spermatic vein reflux after varicocele repair helps to define the efficacy of treatment in improving sperm parameters of subfertile men.

Embolization of left spermatic vein in non-obstructive azoospermic men with varicocele: role of FSH to predict the appearance of ejaculated spermatozoa after treatment.

Purpose: Varicocele repair in non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) was occasionally associated to ejaculated spermatozoa independently from clinical and laboratory measures. We performed a prospective study in infertile men affected by NOA and left side varicocele to find whether or not the appearance of ejaculated spermatozoa after varicocele repair is predicted by baseline measures.

Methods: Patients with NOA and grade II, or grade III left side varicocele were submitted to hormone analysis and to scrotal color Doppler ultrasound (CDU).

Laparoscopic versus open colorectal surgery for colon cancer: the effect of surgical trauma on the bacterial translocation. A prospective randomized study.

Background: Several studies suggest that surgical manipulation of the intestine and increased intra-abdominal pressure promotes bacterial translocation (BT). This prospective randomized study has investigated the effect of surgery on BT in patients undergoing elective colectomy for colon cancer by comparing the laparoscopic with the open approach.

Gabapentin in the treatment of hiccups in patients with advanced cancer: a 5-year experience.

Aim: To evaluate safety and efficacy of gabapentin in the treatment of severe chronic hiccups in patients with advanced cancer.

Methods: Charts of all patients observed in the palliative care unit of a 4-bed hospital and at home by our Home Care Service were reviewed retrospectively.The presence of hiccups was routinely assessed.

Fludarabine-based cycles severely impair mobilisation and collection of peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC) in acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). In an effort of reversing this side-effect, we studied the action on mobilisation and collection of PBSC of a low-dose regimen: 5-d Mini-ICE (oral idarubicin and etoposide; subcutaneous cytosine arabinoside) administered after fludarabine-based regimens in seven adult AML patients. Leukapheresis were started when the CD34+ cell count was more than 10/microL.
